Beanie Wells Going Forward (1 Viewer)

I'm just curious what everyone thinks about Beanie Wells from this point on. If last week is any indication, and he didn't blow it by under producing, he will be given the majority of the carries going forward.

He didn't do very well when given the 20 carries, but I blame a good portion of that on the fact that the NO defense wasn't respecting the pass with a undrafted rookie getting the start, and no real WR2 with Breaston out.

So, from here on out what would you do with Beanie? Buy low, sell while you can on his potential upside, or just stash him on your bench until he produces?

I'm all for keeping him on the bench until he has a great game, and then trying to deal him to someone needing RB help. I'm afraid most teams will load up against the run and try to make Max Hall beat them.

He is someone I want to hold or even acquire if the price is reasonable in dynasty leagues. In redraft leagues, he is nothing more than a wild card. I would not put him in my lineup until I see some more signs from him that he is going to be able to do something. I did not see the last Arizona game, but I am sure that defense are going to dare the Cardinals to beat them with Max Hall by focusing as much as possible on the running game. It does not seem like a good situation for fantasy production for 2010 in my opinion, but there is always going to be upside with a talented player like Wells.

I too am worried about Max Hall not being able to keep defenses from stacking the box. I drafted him as my #2 RB and have been extremely disappointed thus far. I figure at best he will be a flex player this year.

This guy is in a similar situation to Caddy yet people think Caddy is washed up. Plenty of carries but not doing anything due to the predictability of the O.

Except for the fact that Beanie is 6 years younger, 700 fewer attempts, doesn't have bum knees, and has only been given more than 14 carries 4 times in his entire career and only once this year. Tampa also has a respectable quarterback to keep defenses honest. But yes, other than that their situations are identical. Caddy is washed up.

Would you rather have an upside guy who has a terrible O around him like Wells or a TD vulture who has limited upside but in a good offense like Jacobs?

Oh and for the Assistant Coach police this is not just about these 2 guys, but what type of guy you'd rather have at this point in the year

I picked him up in a trade for Johnny Knox, but it was only because I needed some depth at RB. I'll probably start him this week and next week, since I have Jahvid Best and Ray Rice on byes. After that point, I can't see a reason to play him unless he proves something.

I'm honestly considering starting Michael Bush over him as it is, even with Mcfadden back.

as a Hightower owner in one league, I can tell you that I WISH I had Beanie instead. Shoot, Hightower's actually available as a FA in one of my other leagues (shallow league, but it's sad that he's been sitting there for 2 weeks).

The Arizona Republic's Kent Somers suggests that Tim Hightower no longer has a major pass-blocking edge on Beanie Wells.Somers has Hightower responsible for three of the four sacks allowed against the Saints two weeks ago. While Hightower is likely to keep his nominal starting job, his role is going to continue to be diminished with Beanie Wells playing more snaps.Source: Arizona RepublicRelated: Beanie Wells
At this point, I think the Hightower situation is close to be a non-issue for Wells owners. I think Hall is going to be serviceable down the stretch, and if that's the case, Beanie will become very valuable. In Dynasty leagues, this is DEFINITELY a time to buy, imo.

Agree. Just gave up P. Thomas and next year's #1 for him. STUD in the making. I'm looking for a strong finish to this year.

I couldn't agree more. If Wells is available on the wire or for some bench garbage like Johnny Knox, make the move. Obviously in dynasty, but even in redraft. He has a shot to put up solid numbers down the stretch and almost EVERYONE hates him.

Think you guys are expecting too much from Wells. Fact is he's a pound it RB, he's not the best receiving or blocking back. I don't think there will be many games that Arizona can run the ball 20 times with Wells, they'll be throwing most of the time. Admittedly I haven't looked at their schedule, but STL, SEA are much improved defensively, and SF is one of the tougher run Ds. Of course I'm talking in redraft leagues. He's a steal right now in dynasties.

Wells is not simply a "pound it" RB. He's actually a very solid talent as a guy with good burst/speed in a big package. He's a legit RB1 talent. It's possible that the system will prevent much success and I agree that the NFC west is no longer a joke defensively. However, with enough touches and just the right amount of balance from Hall (it's possible, if not probable quite yet), he can be a solid Flex/RB2 which is perhaps less than he is costing in a trade presently.

just traded Chris Ivory, Fred Davis and Big Mike Williams for him in a TE heavy league where the owners hog RBs
