Beanie Wells starts camp on PUP (1 Viewer)

This doesn't matter too much in the big scheme of things. It sure doesn't hurt Ryan Williams, but I'm not sure how much it helps.

Agreed - doesn't mean that much since he will likely come off the list at some point during camp, but does give Williams a bit longer look. Problem is, he's likely going to be brought along slowly as well.

The Zona HC always seems very upfront in his interviews he's given on Sirius and places I've heard him over the years he's been there so I kind of take this a little differently:

Last year, he (Wizz) said several times that he supoprted Beanie and Beanie played through a lot of pain and etc, and that they wanted Beanie to be a big part of their offense. I take that at face value given how things turned out (they played him when they could last year and then Beanie DID end up having a procedure after the season and multiple reports said it was something he had played with the majority of the year). Then recently, Wizz said that Beanie would be fine for the season and they didn't need to rush it and they wanted to see where Ryan Williams was and how he's come along.

So, I think they will do just that and the RB job in AZ this year will be much like we see for most teams in the NFL these days: A lead guy and a change up guy, both playing in various spots and various series, with Beanie being the back with the bigger FF value. I think his potential for TDs and goal line carries probably puts him in a similar role as Michael turner with maybe less yards (but who knows...Beanie has shown the ability to pop off some big numbers here and there).

I don't think the first word you think of is explosive and dynamic when you think of Beanie, but at the end of the day he's a compiler and if the Cardinals can improve their QB play even 50%, he should be a little better than the RB17 or so he was last year just based on usage.

How do we know he will "likely come off the list at some point during camp"? Because the coach suggested that? Lots of players have started on PUP and stayed on despite coaches saying otherwise. Two bad things: 1) it gives his competition more opportunity to prove themselves and win more of a role; 2) if he is ON the list there is always a chance he STAYS on the list.I can't see how this doesn't hurt Beanie. It adds more uncertainty and risk and indicates his knee injury MAY be worse than we were told.

That could very well be true - perhaps the knee injury is worse than what has been let on. If so, then it definitely hurts Wells. If it's minor, then we probably revert back to the expected RBBC.

Let's talk in terms of draft spots.

Where is Wells going right now? 4th, 5th, 6th depending on how people feel on his upside? or is he going 2nd, 3rd because of last season?

Ryan Williams went in the 9th of a 14 team best ball league I was drafting in recently.

Got Wells at 8.4 in a 12 team draft. I can live with that.

Ken's interview on MTC about the QB competition was very interesting. He's good at telling you exactly what's up without trashing the player(s). In so many words, if Kolb can't put it together in a hurry, we will be seeing Skelton. It was pretty clear it was put up shut up time.

Agree 100%...just ran the ADP, Wells is 6.06, Ryan Williams 9.08...this seems very reasonable to lock up a starting RB.

According to FBG, his ADP in non-PPR is 60, so if you really want him, you'll need to jump on him in the 5th in a 12 teamer.
If you do get a RB in the 1st 3 rounds, you can look at Wells in the 5th, Williams in the 9th if you like and you have a solid option as an RB2 most weeks. May not even need Williams but it couldn't hurt.

I'm not a fan of the AZ RBs at all. With the injury issues surrounding both guys I'm guessing that the most likely outcome is a multi-way mess with no one you want starting on a weekly basis.

FWIW, from a Cardinal fan at training camp today:

Beanie Wells does not look good. Walking very gingerly on his knee. On the brighter side, Ryan Williams is looking solid.
