Mike Ditka was a great coach. He led the Bears out of decades of mire and brought home the big one. There maybe should have been more, but luck and injuries played a part. But there is no doubt Bill Belichik is one of a handful of the absolute best. So as for coaching abilty, no doubt that Belichik has scoreboard.

But what one looks like is marketing perception, image, selling oneself. One would be hard pressed to find an NFL coach that has done better than Ditka in that regard. So I don't know if scoreboard would apply in this case.

I could be wrong, but I think Belichik dresses the way he does as a slap at the NFL head coach dress code.

Anyway, John Madden was the biggest slob coach I remember.

I heard a great anecdote about Coach- apparently when he was filming Kicking and Screaming he went to look for one of his famous Bears sweatervests. But his wife had sold them all on ebay without telling him. So Iron Mike had to go on ebay and buy one back from somebody. Howd you like to be that guy?
