Belichick Haters - Lighten Up (1 Viewer)

Lots of people hate Belichick and the Patriots. I get that. I think he's the greatest coach of our generation but I've been very critical of him over things.

But here's what happened last night:

The Giants punched the team that was supposed to be the Greatest Team Of All Time right in the mouth last night. And the Greatest Team Of All Time went to their knees.

The defense rattled Brady into looking like a very mortal QB.

The defense made Randy Moss look very human.

The defense made Laurence Maroney turn back the clock 3 months and look totally inneffective.

Eli Manning looked like he wanted the ball trailing 4 points with 2 minutes on the clock and delivered when it mattered with great poise and athleticism basically giving the finger to millions of naysayers. Ernie Accorsi could finally smile.

Steve Smith and David Tyree emerged as viable weapons with Smith making very headsup plays and Tyree pulling down an impossible catch.

Plaxico Burress caught the game winning TD on a fade route making it look like childs play.

Giants fans and Patriot haters should revel in that. There is TONS to be joyful over.

But the rabid piling on over Belichick leaving the field after shaking hands with Coughlin just seems goofy. Celebrate punching New England in the mouth.

Agreed - this is not about Belichick - this is about a defensive effort for the ages and an embattled QB & coach who shut everybody up. I've never been prouder of the Giants, and it truly was the greatest win in franchise history.

Jets fan here. I'm pretty much on cloud nine at this point.

The thing i took from last night is that the ability to pass rush with your front 4 is by far the most important aspect of NFL football today. Forget all the fancy blitz schemes, hybrid formations and pre-snap audibles. If your front 4 can get past their front 5 without LB help, its over. The patriots, despite having 3 pro-bowlers on the O-line, an all time great coach and QB, and the best 3rd down back in the NFL, could not keep the Giants D-Line out of the backfield. As a result, they lost.

Oh.. We're on it.

Can't be everywhere at once, oh originator and leader of the Whiny Tool Brigade. ;)

Belichick is the face of that franchise as much as Brady is. I don't think you can separate the feelings about Belichick from the feelings about that team, especially after such a devastating loss.

These two points are spot on and bothered me the most about last night. Plax vs. Hobbs alone, no help. Hello!?!?

I think Belichick found out that winning the Superbowl isn't so easy when they can't videotape their opponent's walkthrough.

Seriously, videotaping signals is one thing, videotaping an opponents walk-through when they are going over red-zone plays is a totally different thing and it definitely gives the Pats an advantage.

I have been happy since last night. Nothing but joy here!

But I do think the "greatest coach of our generation" comment is a big statement that is..... well.... big. Obviously a very good coach, I will give him that, but he was clearly out coached last night.

We can be happy about both? The Giants winning and pointing out how big a douch Bellicheat is?

That surprised me too, dudaman. Especially at the end zone. I like Hobbs but that looked like a mismatch with Burress' height.J

So he was outcoached on night (granted, the biggest of his career). No one else in our generation is even close imo, unless somehow Belichick suddenly reverts to his brown days - and with Brady at the helm, that's not going to happen.

not piling.. but I think the coach could learn from his QB.. Brady seems first class the whole way.... Belichick accomplished a major feat no matter... thinking it will be another 35 years, before we are even thinking this could happen again

Gilbride was quoted as saying that he felt Burress would get man coverage on first down and he was right. The Pats were bringing the heat on that play and the Giants called the perfect play - the fade to Plax.

Oh, Steven. Please don't tell me you said "we" as if you were a Giants fan.
No."We" as in Bellichik haters as in the title of the thread. From my experience, Giants fans are really great fans... The "Old School" fans of New York with probably no bones to pick with Bellichik or the Pats.

It is hard for me to give him "greatest coach of our generation" with one great regular season and three SB's that really should have been 1 SB at best. People give him way too much credit for the blow outs where he ran up the score- other great coaches do not get those blow outs because they have class.

Given some of the allegations of cheating - I think there are some that will re-think their position on whether Belichick belongs in the greatest coaches circle.

Congrats Joe, you're now on timschochet's level. Be proud.
What level? For saying stop piling on Belichick and be happy about how the players did?J
Stop piling on a guy WHO WAS PILING IT ON ALL SEASON?Nah... I don't think so. He brought all of this on himself. He deserves all the derision. Not once during this "perfect" season did he act classy.

I will agree here. I am not a Brady fan and I am glad to see him take this loss but I sure can not say anything about how he is taking it. He is being a class guy. So, props to him for that.

Best coach of our generation?

May want to wait until all the evidence (what hasn't been covered up or destroyed) is finally uncovered before that label is given.

Barry Switzer won a Super Bowl with a great QB; Bellicheat had Brady and a slew of questionable actions that has yet to be fully exposed.

I can agree with this. Giants fans, for the most part, seem like a pretty good group. Even though there should be some kind of NY/Boston dislike, it hasn't really manifested itself. Maybe it's the fact that they're in the NFC. Maybe it's that they haven't been good at the same time as the Pats until now, so there's been no conflict between the fans. They were likable when they had Parcells and were a rootable underdog going into the playoffs this year. It'll be interesting to see if Giants fans turn this into some kind of Boston/New York thing once the honeymoon period is over, but for now, the Giants remain the more likable of the two "New York" football teams. Jets fans, on the other hand...

I would agree with this. As a 'Skins fan, there are far fewer jerky, front-running Giants fans than Eagles or Cowboys fans.

Apparently the Browns org does not allow cheating.

i believe it was Jacobs who had a great blitz pick up.

Or it was early in his career and he either was honest at one point or hadn't perfected his "Kraft" yet....

When you start a season by getting caught cheating, go through a season intentionally running up the score on all of your opponents, then get caught at the end for cheating again you are going to draw a lot of ire. He's as much a face of that franchise as Brady. It's just the way it is. For those of us who aren't really Giants fans it's nice to see karma come around and smack BB in the head.

That obviously doesn't mean that I don't recognize the great game played by the Giants. They were able to do what noone else could do on the biggest stage of them all.

is what Belichik did on that play (hobbs singled on Burress) ANY different than the stupidity of defending Moss 1-on-1 on 3rd and goal on the other end?

at least NE was blitzing

NYG thought it was a good idea to not bring the house AND guard Moss 1-on-1

funny how we forget coaching mistakes of the winner

I'm not so sure Joe.

Last night, I chalked the whole thing up to BB believing the game was over. He didn't waste any time getting out there to congratulate Caughlin.

But this morning, thinking about it more, it doesn't click. He had to have known there was still time on the clock, and even so, he should at least stay on the sidelines until the final snap is played.

At the end of the day, legends get perpetuated. I can't count the number of posts that took mundane issues or luck, and painted them as Patriot genius. Conversely, if BB didn't have such reputation of being an arrogant schmuck, these accusations wouldn't be so forthcoming.

But I'll play my own devils' advocate here, all the same:

I wasn't glue to the postgame footage about when he actually walked off the field, and just because a bunch of tool-posters say something doesn't make it true.

I can also see a security issue. When the field gets overrun with people, there's a valid reason to get away from it as soon as possible.

 So only the losing team is endanger when the field gets over run? I did not see the Giants running for security.

Being in Chicago and not a Bears fan... the way that Belichick acted makes me respect Lovie even more. One is a total and complete class act and the other is a classless jerk.

Steve Smith was a great pick by the Giants. Isn't the tallest, fastest WR out there, but huge smarts and makes big plays when it counts. I was telling my buddy that Smith would have a surprising impact on this game.

5 for 50 doesn't seem like much, but all 5 seemed to be in critical spots.

No, my point was, that BB might be a bigger target because of his reputation than most of the giants. I'm not saying his life was in danger though.
