Ben Watson (1 Viewer)

Watson didn't live up to his #2 TE ranking this week by Dodds. 3 catches for 50 yards. Did anyone see this game? I was wondering how Watson looked....did he have any drops...or just wasn't targeted very much?

Actually, the last updated cheetsheets had him at #1. He could've caught a ball in the endzone that would've made his fantasy stats look much better for the day.

He dropped one but Brady had a poor game. One has to credit the Bills defense but he only threw for 163 yards. Given that, 50/163 = 30.6% of his passing yards.

Watson had 7 targets. During the first scoring drive (second possession) he had 2 looks but only 1 completion. Brady looked at him in all quarters so I'd say that's pretty good chemistry.

NE passing game looked out of synch, Brady rushed all day. Brady/Watson were a little off - Brady threw a few like he expected Ben to continue a route, and Watson had stopped. They'll clean that up. He was targeted deep a few times, which I like. Not just a safety valve TE..

Is this a guy to trade for now? Any homers see this weeks game?
Not a homer, but I was at the game. As has been his m.o. for some time, Brady spread the ball out quite a bit, including to the "other" TE Graham a few times. Plus, Chad Jackson and Gabriel are healthy now. While it may be a one-week aberration, those expecting Brady to singularly lock into Watson may be a bit disappointed. He's too good of a QB to not take what the defense gives him.

That's exactly the problem. You'll start Watson and he'll get 37 yards. You'll sit him and he'll get 82 yards and a TD.

I actually think Brady was looking to Watson a lot. Watson was wide open for a TD, Brady underthrew just a bit and Kerry Rhodes was able to go up and get it.I think the problem with Watson right now isn't spreading the ball around - it's that the Patriots passing offense hasn't done much so far. As soon as they start putting up big games maybe against better teams that require them to score more, and as the season goes on and the WR's gel some more, Watson will get more than his fair share. I'd sit tight on him, and I'd even approach an unhappy Watson owner to see if he's unhappy enough to dump him.

I was one who questioned the hype for Watson being considered a shoo-in for a top 5 TE ranking. I felt that defenses would game plan around stopping Watson if he got on a roll. With that in mind, people are only disappointed if they thought they were getting 8+ TDs and 900+ yards this year. A more realistic 5-6 TDs and 700 or so yards is still very much a possibility, and nothing says he can't hit Top 5. If Brady hits Watson on that Td pass, then he actually is Top 5 right now. As it is, he is 5th in yards for the season. It's Week 2 everyone.
