Ben Watson (1 Viewer)

I thought that this was the season he develops into an upper echelon TE.

Combine that with no good WR's for NE and I thought he would have some #'s.

He has been putting up very pedestrian #'s thus far.

Anyone know whats going on?

yeah, it's called "hype".

Although I expected some good numbers from him, I in no way expected him to blow up to the very top of the TE rankings.

I think he was a bit overhyped.

he's top 5 TE right now, what more do you want ?
In what scoring system would he be top 5 right now?I'm in 6 leagues this year. Here are Watson's ranking in each:71013131414 (Standard scoring)Average of 11.83 ranking.

I guess that in yardage HEAVY, ppr leagues he may be up there... Although I agree that he was overhyped, throw in a touchdown and he'd be right up there in most leagues. Too early to panic. He's fourth in yardage, which is nice.

Choppy offense for NE as they get used to the new players ...and that allows D's to give attention to Watson. Give him, and the offense, some time to grow.

I don't expect him to ever live up to some people's preseason expectations as long he is in New England being thrown the football by Tom Brady in a Bill Belichek offense.

Reason one is that Brady spreads the ball around a lot. Why? Because he can. He's probably the best QB in football at finding the open man. He's going Watson's way a ton right now, and even then, Watson is not lighting the world on fire. As Brady gels with his WRs some, Watson's targets will decrease.

Reason two is that Brady throws to the open man--yes, similar to reason one, but hear me out. Teams are starting to realize that Watson is Brady's go to guy, and they will key on him more and more. With Watson being doubled, he will not often be open, and Brady will look elsewhere.

Reason three is that Watson doesn't seem to be the go to guy in the redzone--something you almost need from a top FF TE. The reason is probably the same as above. Brady is so good that he doesn't need a top red zone target. Watch other QBs force the ball to their big TE in the red zone. Brady doesn't often do this.

My two cents.

:goodposting: You pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Watson seems to give a consistent effort at TE, which is nice to a degree. You can pencil in 3 points and be happy with 5 or 6. That's tolerable, but not necessarily good enough.

I think Watson became overhyped because of his relative value. He isn't lighting the world on fire, but considering that I got him as the 14th or 15th TE off the board and he's outperforming Chris Cooley, for example, I can call it a value move still. I know some people starting picking him way early as we got closer and closer to the season...

I'm gonna drink the Eric Johnson Kool-Aid for a month and then debate between giving Watson another chance and starting Davis, who's been dropped.
