Berian vs Toomer (1 Viewer)

Bernard Berian can, I suppose, be considered somewhat of a suprise this year given Grossman's stats. Toomer is solid but not spectacular but with a solid QB. Who do the sharks think will end up being the top producer of the two. Is either one a possible breakout player??

I'd say Toomer for sure. He'll get his share of targets from Eli. I think Berrian may have a few big plays here and there, but not a guy who will consistenly put up decent numbers.

Toomer will probably produce better stats due to the high scoring games the Giants will be in, but I think Berrian has tools that Toomer can only dream about. Grossman has one of the better deep-balls in the league, so you should probably take that into consideration as well. Berrian is injury-prone. Flip a coin.

EDIT: I second the poster below me, dynasty, take Berrian without thinking, re-draft, flip a coin.

Berrian is just starting to blossom,

I followed this guy in Fresno, he's the real deal.

Athletic, not especially fast, but a great route runner,

and great hands.

Having said that, I would take Toomer in a redraft,

but Berrian without hesitation in a dynasty.

"Not especially fast"?????? :loco:

Berrian looked "silly" fast running behind the defense the past 2 weeks.

Antonio Freeman commented to watch-out for this guys speed on ESPN.

:goodposting: Until last week, the only thing he had going for him was speed

Ron Mexico....you are as funny as a Michael Vick date. Berrian is "sprinter" fast .....and if he were as "fast" as Vick he'd have a name like you.....but maybe "Bob Bakersfield". Slow????? Dude....I watched him and his 3 brothers run track and all of them ran for major colleges. Bernard was the only one who went football.....had he not, he would have been top NCAA caliber 200 and 400 meter. If you watched him at Fresno State it must have been from the "tail-gate" crowd. Sorry bro but I've watched him since his Freshman year in HS and acctually while "sober" at FSU and he has always been the fastest player on the field in those games. :wall:  :wall:

I apologize, after doing some research

I found that he ran a 4.42 / 40, which is f'in fast.

OVERVIEW

Exciting big-play artist, whether it is catching the ball, returning kickoffs and punts or coming out of the backfield on reverses … Has game-breaking speed and fantastic leaping ability … Sat out most of the 2002 season after suffering a knee sprain in the season opener versus Wisconsin, but came back strong with a solid senior campaign … Started 40 of 49 games for the Bulldogs, catching 199 passes for 2,849 yards (14.3 avg.) and 25 touchdowns … Only Rodney Wright (222, 1998-2001) had more receptions in FSU annals … His 2,849 yards are topped only by Henry Ellard (2,947, 1979-82), Brian Roberson (2,956, 1993-96), Wright (3,274) and Charlie Jones (3,344, 1992-95) on the school's career-record list … His 25 scoring grabs equaled the team's all-time record, first set by Ellard and matched by Jones … Returned 68 kickoffs for 1,571 yards (23.1 avg.) and a touchdown … His 68 returns tied the school career record, first set by Kevin Means (1989-91), while only Means (1,670) and David Dunn (1,639, 1993-94) gained more yards in FSU history … Returned 99 punts for 1,144 yards (11.6 avg.) and three touchdowns, shattering the previous Bulldogs' records of 71 returns by Mike White (1966-69) and 675 yards by Brian Roberson (1993-96) … His 1,144 punt-return yards rank fifth all-time in Western Athletic Conference annals … Added 264 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries (12.6 avg.) … Touched the ball for a total of 387 times during his career, gaining 5,828 all-purpose yards with 31 touchdowns, topping the old school all-time record of 4,425 all-purpose yards by Rodney Wright (1998-2001) … His 5,828 yards are topped only by Colorado State's Steve Bartalo (5,962, 1983-86), LaDainian Tomlinson of Texas Christian (6,337, 1997-2000) and New Mexico's Terance Mathis (6,691, 1985-87, 89) on the WAC's career-record chart.

ANALYSIS

Positives: Split high with long legs, tight skin and high calves with the potential to add another 10 pounds to his frame … Immediately defeats the cushion once he gets off his release, showing the quick feet, sure hands and speed to effectively beat the jam … Good route runner in both man and zone coverage, showing the ability to avoid the defender and find the holes with his smooth weaving, quick transition and acceleration through his speed cuts … Has outstanding field awareness, settling instinctively as he slides to create lanes and carry depth in his routes … Sinks his hips to gain his burst after the catch in the open … Very alert of the sidelines and chains, knowing how to squeeze and fit through the defense and take hits going for the ball in traffic … Good extension to pluck the ball at its high point … Shows very good concentration catching in a crowd, protecting the ball securely with his body … Has the height and speed to be an effective deep threat, as he gets down field quickly and can track, adjust and jump for the ball over defenders … Has a knack for locating the ball on a late read or with his back to the quarterback and will not hesitate to make a play on a tipped pass … Very strong and difficult to bring down in isolated coverage, as his burst and elusiveness will generally make the first tackler miss … Has a quick change of direction with an outstanding second gear burst … Performs in the clutch and plays the game with great passion.

You do realize that Toomer is in his 11th NFL season and is 32 right? He also has had five 1000 yard receiving campaigns and has been an above average NFL receiver for years. Berrian is faster and "has tools" but Toomer has the credentials that Berrian can only dream about. As far as who is better for this year I'd say Toomer in PPRs and Berrian otherwise. Berrian in all dynasty leagues by a mile but that really goes without saying as we know that Amani is near the end of his career.

Toomer has had an impressive career, however, that doesn't change the fact that Berrian is coming into his own, and the talent he posseses is quite impressive. You have a good point regarding the importance of experience, and I do feel Toomer will put up better numbers this season.

Also interesting to see what happens when shockey comes back 100 percent (if that is ever possible). I think toomer was getting a lot of balls that would have been Shockey's last week. I think in the short term he is a pretty good play given all that. I'll have to sit down and take a look at Berrian. I haven't seen the bears play yet except for just parts of teh GB game but I will get a chance for sure in week four vs the Seahawks.
