Bernard Scott, RB Abilene Christian (1 Viewer)

I almost don't want to see him play. Owned him for years in dynasty, rejected trade offers over the years. Really want him to break out, but in a weird way I'm nervous. If he busts I will be really sad.

Man I need a life.

He definitely has a good chance of being startable for that 2-3 week stretch. If you're thinking more than that though, it's probably wishful thinking. At best he can work his way into having more of a role when Ced comes back, but almost no way does he take over as the lead back.As a Bengals fan, I get sick of the fans pointing the YPC difference as a reason Scott should be starting. They have 2 completely different roles in the offense. It isn't like they're calling the same plays for both guys and Scott is running for an extra yard per carry. Unless they're going to rewrite the offensive gameplans to suit Scott, he's going to be doing a lot more inside running now. I just hope he can block well enough when he starts. Protecting Dalton needs to be priority 1.I will admit I'm interested in seeing him in an every down role though. The offense needs playmakers at any position they can find them.
What makes you so sure he can't take over as lead back? Benson hasn't exactly been lights-out recently. Seems to me there is a real opportunity here.Re: their different roles, Scott is supposedly a strong inside runner as well, even though the Bengals haven't used him much in that role. I guess we'll find out soon enough...
The Bengals offensive philosophy is built around a running game that can consistently pick up 3-4 yards at a time and control the clock. Most of those runs are off tackles or right off the guard. They also need a RB who can protect their rookie QB in the passing game. This is exactly the player that Benson is whether people think he sucks or not. He's been really good at that role for 3 years running here and the coaching staff trusts him and has a very high opinion of him. Every time the Bengals have won games the last 3 years, you will find Ced square in the middle of it. People talk about what he isn't (explosive, elusive, etc) but they don't talk about what he is. A workhorse back that is really good at exactly what the bengals ask from their RB.Can Scott fill that role? Maybe. Yes, we've been told he can run the power game, but has anyone seen it? Not even in preseason. Of course its possible that he blows up so big that they change everything to accomodate him. I would hardly say the job is up for grabs though. It may not matter, but at least a small consideration is that Ced LOVES his role as a bell-cow and would be very unhappy in a RBBC. He tries for every rep in practice and hates coming off the field in the games for any reason. He pretty much never gets tired and plays through pain. Anyway, its pretty obvious I'm a believe that Ced helps the Bengals win games and his job is not in jeapardy. Its certainly a matter of opinion though since none of us can know for sure what might happen.

Swaaaeeeet video...very well done. I also really liked the Lexicast 5-minute video WW Audible that you guys used to do. Consider finding another video method for a short WW pickup Audible guys. BTW...I realize that you guys have your plates full with all that you do. Great work!

With respect to the bold above, didn't he have a nice two-game stretch his rookie year in 2009 (IIRC when Benson was injured)? Week 9 @ OAK he went 21 / 119 running and 3 / 32 receiving. The following week it was 18 / 89 against CLE before he was injured for most of the rest of the season.Certainly not looking to compete with your homer knowledge and insight, but from an outsider's perspective it seems he has the skills but Marvin appears to employ a one-back, old-school, veteran kind of philosophy for his RB's. Maybe a little early to make definitive statements about what might or might not happen if he performs exceptionally well in Benson's absence.
