Berrian with Griese? (1 Viewer)

I know you can't exactly tell how this will pan out.... but personal; I believe you downgrade Berrian without Grossman. BB is a speed / breakout type WR... without Rexy's cannon; I suspect Berrian production will be even lower than it is now while Mush & D Clark's will go up just a bit.

Do you watch the FBG's 5 minute drill...they said that yesterday way in advance!

Of course a cannon that can't hit "the broad side of a barn" is useless. I don't know much about Griese but I would think he can at least get the ball down field accurately. I think Berrian's production increases just because it is so pathetic now but Mush should benefit more.

Berrian made his mark by being the deep ball threat, but he has the ability to become the go to stud receiver not just a deep threat. The FBG Audible had a recent interview with the guy from The Bear Report (who they seem to respect) and he mentioned how Berrian totally took it to the top Chicago DB's in training camp this year.

JMHO that he has become their go to guy and will benifit from Griese, time will tell.

I have him in a 12 man league as a 3/4 WR guy and looking at moving him in that league. Roster size is 15 so there is a lot of free agents out there, but there are some guys that wanted him at the draft so maybe I can get them to trade me a guy struggling for Berrian.

I think his value goes down, since he will not be getting the deep tosses from Grossman.

This is getting ridiculous...pay attention.

He's the #1 WR on their team.

Griese is an upgrade over Grossman at this point and is more than capable of hitting a wide open Berrian on a fly pattern.

They are playing against Detroit this week who will light up the Bears def with Vasher, Tillman and Harris out.

Chicago will have to throw.

Start him if you've got him.

It's really not that complicated.

Whether it was a panic move or not I traded Berrian for Santonio Holmes straight up. Grossman or no Grossman I'm pretty happy with that deal. I do believe Mushy gets a decent boost with the change at QB, as does Olsen and Clark.

Berrian will do nothing different--he will create seperation with his speed and it's up to Griese to hit him between the numbers...and Griese happens to be better at hitting the guys in black & white than Grossman. Steve Young, Troy Aikman, etc. didn't have cannons but because they hit their WR's in stride they had great success. It's better to be accurate than to be the bomber putting it up for grabs. Drive for show, putt for dough...

Griese is a better qb than Grossman. Grossman locked onto Berrian. Griese will spread the ball around. Spreading the ball around means less passes for more players.

Spreading it around is fine, but Berrian will still get his usual targets because the drives will sustain longer and their will be more scoring opps if Griese performs better than Rex

Griese and Galloway had great success together in 2005.

Game 1:

Galloway- 5 catches, 97 yards

Game 2:

Galloway injured

Game 3:

5 catches, 53 yards, 2 TD's

Game 4:

Galloway-7 catches, 166 yards, 1 TD

Game 5:

Galloway-5 catches, 87 yards

Game 6:

Galloway- 9 catches, 96 yards, 1 TD

And then Griese was out for the year...

Still those numbers suggest that Griese can and will get the ball to his best (and speedy) WR.

Great post. Was Clayton the WR2 that year?

Unless A) there are more pass attempts(likely)andB) Berrian continues to be one of the few viable passing options(also likely)

Game 4 is what I see Berrian doing against the weak ### Det secondary this week.

I'm still skeptical as to Berrian's value for the rest of the season but EVERYBODY is a great play against Detroit. Start him if you've got him.

Berrian scored in both games vs Det last year(43yd 1 td, and 89 yd 1 td), FWIW. Muse scored in neither. I realize the QB change, but you have to assume Griese hits the open guy.
