Best Backup RB in ‘25 (2 Viewers)

I believe there’s a post about this already but I couldn’t find it but I just wanted to get everyone’s insight on backup running backs that could potentially be a #1 with an injury .. I’ll start

Jordan Mason - Vikes
No1 backups shouldn't need backups imo

Best player or best opportunity?
I'm guessing a combo of both. But probably would make sense to focus on opportunity. Give me the 50th most talented back in the league with 20 touches per game versus the 15th most talented back in the league with 12 touches per game.

David Montgomery
That's a split backfield not a backup.

I've gotten to the point where I don't know if rostering backups that don't have guaranteed touches is a good idea. Preseason depth charts can't tell who the coaches will turn to week 9. Every year there's some unknown who only is rostered in incredibly deep leagues who ends up near rb1 numbers, and it's almost never the one you think beforehand. Best bet is to pick another Wr with upside.

Omarion Hampton is probably the best backup RB today.

Montgomery is a great choice too and may score more than Hampton.

Kaleb Johnson is my personal favorite but I’m a :homer:

Not a fan of the term "backup RB" for a number of teams.

One-Two punch, "split" fits for some
Detroit
Minnesota
Chargers
Pittsburgh
Washington -
New England - not betting on Gibson making it 3-man committee, but it could happen

Giants - not betting on Singletary making it 3-man committee, but it could happen
Dallas - forecasting Javonte-Blue 1-2, but potential for full blown RBBC

RBBC
Jacksonville - maybe 1-2 punch early, expecting 3-man committee as season progresses if someone doesn't run away with it

Other teams that I could see becoming RBBC or 2-man: KC, DEN, CHI, CAR, CLE

I think I bumped the thread you we’re thinking of.

Not sure I agree with that. Talent is coming into the league faster than it’s leaving.
I think you’re going to see a lot of “FA” next to the names of of a lot of RBs in the near future.

Yeah so it becomes a salary cap tool to use younger players with less draft capital and spend the money on other positions,

RB might be the most interchangeable position on the team apart from Punter.

We have to realize that NFL salary cap matters more to a team than keeping the same RB past year 4,
