What is the best Chex Mix Piece, and how do you rank them?  Mine is basically:

Rye Chips > Breadsticks > Circle Pretzel > Square Pretzel >>>>>>> Wheat Chex > Corn Chex

The actual Chex are the worst part of the blend, IMO.  The other elements are clearly superior.

I actually prefer the Chex over the pretzels if the seasoning is right. I don't buy Chex Mix for pretzels. I buy pretzels when I want pretzels.

When I travel for work, I think I get more enjoyment out of charging the enormous $10 bag of hotel gift shop Chex Mix to the room than I do expensing the nice dinner and drinks.

Corn Chex slightly edges out the rye chip.   You can keep the rest

anyone remember Doo Dads ?  God that was an amazing snack mix. Chex, not too heavy on the pretzels, good amount of peanuts and cheese logs

Agreed.  Pretzels are highly overrated.  There is a reason it is call Chex mix and not pretzel mix.

I like eating them in rotation. I think corn Chex, rye chip, wheat Chex, weird breadstick thing, then pretzels is my normal rotation.

Totally with you on this.  Corn Chex > Rye Chip >>>>>>>>>> everything else.

And Doo Dads were the ####.

the wheat chex soaks up more of the butter and Worchester sauce mix and almost becomes chewy.  I always try and get one wheat chex along with one rice chex with every bite.

Pretzels are the worst and should just be abolished.

Plus, they're making me thirsty.

I have taken to smoking mine for about 45 minutes.  I buy the premade mix.  I then ignore that it is premade and I add the liquid ingredients to it along with a bit of onion and garlic salt.  I toss it, spread it on a foil sheet with a bunch of holes so the smoke can get at it from below as well as above, and put it in hickory or mesquite smoke for 45 minutes.

I first had this at a friend's house.  He called it Colorado Crack.    Worth the work.

This sounds fantastic and I have a smoker and hickory....

Rye > wheat > circle pretzel > square pretzel > corn > breadstick

Reason the wheat ranks so high is that I've found those have the highest probability of being layered in a deep coating of whatever seasoning mix they use. When you get a saturated one, it may even rank higher than the rye.

If I know I am going to be smoking something I have this standing bye to throw on at the end, after I have taken off the meat, while the smoker is burning out.

So, I would just google a DIY Chex Mix recipe and follow it, but using the pre-made mix rather than the individual components, and then just chuck it on the smoker at whatever temp it's set to for ~45 minutes?  Anything else I need to know?  I think I'm going to do this next weekend.

That's it.

I buy three bags of the premade mix.  I then melt six sticks of butter, about a quarter cup of worchestishire sauce, a teaspoon of onion salt, a teaspoon of garlic salt together. I pour over the premade mix in a bowl, toss it to coat all the mix, then spread the mix out on foil baking pans, (2) from the store.  I poke holes in the pans to let through the smoke from the bottom as well as the top. I spread the mix.  I then salt the top of the mix again with both onion and garlic salt.  I place on the grill, close the vents, let the last vestiges of the wood smoke in while also making sure the airvents are closed to the smoke chamber, and I wait 45 minutes.  The only key is to have your smoker cooling down, so less than 225 degrees on its way down to 150.  This is cool smoking, definitely not cooking.

Got it, thanks.  I usually run my smoker around 200-225 anyway, I can just crank it down to ~150 for the last 45 minutes of whatever I'm making.

nice ...what temp?

Cool, like you are smoking fish, maybe.  180 degrees or cooler even.  There is no cooking or curing to do, and cereal grains pick up smoke pretty readily.  Just want to expose it to smoke and have enough warmth to dry the butter worchestishire  mixture into the mix.  I want a salty and smoky snack, not one greasy to the touch.

BTW my wife hates when I do this.  She says it emits smoke even through sealed containers after I bring it in.  She says putting it in zip locks, inside of Tupperware still makes her house smell like BBQ.  I tell her that's why I do it.

If my wife says the same, I'll just tell her it's a shame I had to cover up the smell of her high-potency weed that makes my entire house smell like a skunk every time I walk in the door.  That'll shut her up.

I hate pretzels in my snack mixes (the small ones you get in there; pretzel bites like Hanover's are awesome). Literally pick around then until it's all pretzels left in the bag. Then I found a local company that sells their snack mixes in the bulk section in the Tops by me (WNY) . Mister Snack. ####### phenomenal! I will never go back to big brand snack mixes ever again.

Why do I picture this getting into a heated back and forth, ending with clothes on the floor and a hate shtup, and then her smoking a bowl and you munching on Chex mix in front of the T.V., nekkided up and with  the dog begging you for a handout?

If they are in there, I pick them out.  I don't hate pretzels, just don't want them in my chex mix.  I want heavy amount of wheat chex, lots of rice chex, and some corn chex.  I want cashews and a few slice almonds.  My wife likes cheez-its in it ...meh, sometimes I'll eat them, many times pick them out.  Definitely no pretzels or rye chips.

ETA:  throwing in some cut-up dried seaweed slices , wasabi peas, and nori komi furikake seasoning gives it a smoky asian taste.  I posted a sweet version, but we also do this non-sweet alot too.  The shake is great for popcorn too.

I dig the rye chips.  Grew up on them. Long before they were introduced to much of the world at large they were a staple in Wisconsin.  The Pinah's company made them from leftovers, an orthodox baked Vienna rye as I understood it.  those rascals could really cut into a cheese dip or other very heavy dips.  Not like some wimpy potato chips that would break off.

Corn chex vote here.  Plain, they are rather blah, but damn they hold the seasoning well.  The rye/pumpernickel thingies are a close second.  I just had a sack of the cheese flavored Chex mix...no rye chips in there.  They have little triangle shaped cheese crackers instead which aren’t too bad.  But again, the star in there was the corn Chex loaded with cheesy seasoning goodness

I like rye chips with some good beer cheese dip, or some kind of dip.

They are pretty thick and hard so they need something soft and tasty to go with them.  Maybe a couple of plain ones with a beer if that's all there is.

The problem for me with Chex Mix pretzels is that their texture is off, compared to the rest of the pieces. They're not quite crunchy enough, I think. The breadstick has the same issue, but not quite as bad.

We don't have a dog, but if I've had enough to drink, I'll probably be trying to feed it anyway.

Not enough debauchery for an Evilgrin typical Tuesday night (at least in my imagination).

20 years ago maybe.  These days, a standard Tuesday night is coming home from work, eating dinner, saying good night to the wife and then spending a couple of hours watching TV off the DVR or playing Skyrim in PSVR.  Underwear, a t-shirt, and a giant headset strapped to my face.  Glamorous.
