Should be plenty of time to ask them if the spicy chicken has different spices in the breading.  😉 lol

It's amazing - they could seriously challenge to be a top-tier fast food place but their service just sucks so bad.

45 mins? How is that even possible?!

Full story

we decided to get Popeyes for a late lunch,  went to the normal one about 2 miles from my house.  I could see from the street cars wrapped around the building and they’re normally slow, so I figured I’d head to the other one about 4 miles from my house in the opposite direction.  So there was about 15 minutes wasted, and that was in addition to the 45 minutes

so I order (disaster in itself) and get up to pay.  There’s already a few cars off to the side waiting so they ask me to pull ahead as well.  This is where things go south. There isn’t like a normal pickup or parking spot here and the cars next to me are already pulled as far ahead as they can be on the right.  So I pull up as far as I can On the left trying to leave enough space for a car to get between us but i can already tell there’s not

im hoping one of these other cars gets their food and then we’d be good, but or course the car behind me gets theirs in a snap and is honking at me.  So I pull out onto the main road and pull back into the parking lot.  By this time there are now like 10 cars in the drive through and parking lot is under construction so I can’t just pull around.  Can’t go inside so I had to wait in the drive through again, explain the issue and finally get up there to get my food

I think they remade it at least because it was still piping hot by the time I got home

Ugh

Thats a lot of work for a chicken sandwich

I'm late to this party...

1. Arby's - Smokehouse Brisket

2. Wendy's - Bacon Jalepeno Chicken

3. Burger King - Rodeo King (ETA...I don't think they do this one anymore  :( )

I eat just about any food, there’s very little I don’t eat but I have a couple of weird food things:

1. I refuse to eat gas station food - just won’t do it

2. Certain items that I absolutely love I won’t eat at fast food places - mushrooms, jalapeños and guacamole- I can’t even really explain it, in my mind they aren’t any good because it’s coming from a fast food place - and I have no qualms about eating fast food.
MISTAKE

All due respect, but I'm kind of shuked as to how Arby's roast beef sandwiches are being ranked in a burger/chicken sandwich thread.  I like Arby's more than most, but that ain't no burger.

Title does say burger and chicken (which I admittedly sort of read as fast food sandwich), but the OP then describes the rules as "meat between 2 buns with stuff on it."  So, that opens up the door a little.  Why would anyone compare chicken to burgers anyway?

there was a jernt by name of Lil' Abner's we used to pass on the way to the Jersey Shore every summer - their SHMOO burger is still the best i've ever had.

(yes, they ripped off the strip, even had a "Dogpatch Delight")

was also a place called "Mr. S" as ya exited the Holland Tunnel heading into Jersey, right beforejumping  on the Turnpike - would usually be our first stop if pops hit the late double at Aqueduct the day before - awesome. burger. goodness.

Fair enough

I’ve only had it once in Vegas but after years of hearing it talked up I was severely underwhelmed
Yep, I’ve had it twice on recent years (LV and Phoenix) and have no clue why people rave about it like they do. In fact, In n Out is pretty low on my list.

I still have yet to try Whataburger. I hear good things, but just haven’t found one in my travels.

My too 3 in no particular order:

Whopper - big patty, lots of onion, lettuce. A good, traditional burger fast food style.

White Castle - I can eat the living hell out of these things. Not the most amazing burger, but very unique which I appreciate.

Arbys Beef n Cheddar - loved these since I was a kid. Really good for hangovers as well.

The Burger King in my area still have it.  It may not be on the menu but they will still do it.  I actually prefer getting the Rodeo King Jr. (trying to watch my figure...hahaha).  The original is good but it's too much (not that I can't put it down, mind you...….I just shouldn't).   The only draw back on the Rodeo King Jr is that it's not an official known choice so I have to describe it which sometimes becomes an ordeal if the order taker isn't very bright.

How is Wendy's Spicy Chicken not the top of everyones list? Also Burger King's classic chicken sandwich is the best item ever if you're high
Because those people also have access to Popeyes and/or Chic-Fil-A ??

To be fair, I haven't had the Popeye's sandwich everybody is raving about, but both times I went, they were out.  If you can't deliver the goods, I'm not waiting around on you.  Prior to this, Popeyes food was just okay.  I had it enough times to make a determination.  Hard for me to fathom that they just figured out how to make terrific food the last year +.

When Chick-Fil-A finally opened up here, I waited for the crowds to die down before trying their spicy chicken sandwich.  Wendy's better.  Not even close for me.  I remember eating at a Chick-Fil-A in Texas in the 90s and there was nothing memorable about it back then.  Nothing memorable now either.  Just that they are anti gay and have found a niche politicizing their food.

So, for me, Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich is the king.  Always available, always tasty, not against homosexuality.

This dude.  He knows ####.

You're brainwashed by having a minimum of 5 Wendy's right off every single exit of 75 or 71 in that state of yours.  Your opinion doesn't count.  I am disappointed in GM though
I have 2 Wendy's, 1 Popeye's and 2 Chick-Fil-A's within about a 2 mile radius.  When we do go to CFA, I get the spicy chicken. Every time.  It's their best sandwich.  I've had the Popeye's sandwich once.

If I'm setting Wendy's Spicy as the standard, I'll give it a 10.  CFA is a 9 and Popeye's a 7.

All are good.

Wendy's is the best.

Exactly.  She's not the Queen for no reason.  Also, her Twitter game is on point.

This is a pretty interesting point -- how does a restaurant that specializes in breaded chicken face supply chain issues with getting chicken and bread to stores. I get that it was a new offering that likely underestimated demand, and there was a viral thing about it that exacerbated it further, but it's not like this was Taco Bell shifting to sell waffles or McDonald's getting into the takeout Chinese game -- chicken is Popeye's primary offering.

On the other hand, there is the argument that if this sandwich drove such crazed reaction from customers who were already used to Popeye's chicken offerings, there has to be something there that warrants the demand.

What does this all mean? Nothing outside of me needing to get my hands on one of these sandwiches again.

Yeah, I gotta get one of those sandwiches.

Wendy's used to be my favorite when they used something other than straight cayenne to make their "spice".  It had flavor.  It wasn't just "hot".  When that changed, the meat went from a nice juicy chunk of white meat to hockey puck and they changed the bun too.  All this happened here about the same time they changed their fries.  I haven't been to Wendy's in a few years though.

To be fair this may be somewhat regional.  Gas stations around here always sucked.  Only in the last 10 years did they start with the large, clean places and start serving food.  I’m not going to try it but it doesn’t seem quite as repulsive as it used to.
I just wanted to point out that you should not be 100% absolute about the no gas station rule.  The place I linked is not your typical gas station!  You can read a lot more about it in this thread.   (Upon looking, it seems you have participated in that thread, so you should know better!)

CFA is such a different chicken sandwich than anywhere else.  The chicken is high quality, juicy and flavorful, but the breading is very minimalist and doesn't pack the crunch that I crave from a chicken sandwich.  Wendy's and Popeye's bring this, but Wendy's chicken itself IMHO lacks the juiciness and flavor that CFA has.  Popeye's changes this.  The chicken is high quality, juicy, flavorful, and the breading is perfectly crunchy, plus I think the pickles are higher quality than CFA.  The only thing it lacks is that the spicy chicken sandwich is not remotely spicy.  The chicken itself is the same as the regular chicken sandwich, but there is a "spicy" mayo on it which tastes good, but lacks spice.  Popeyes >>>> CFA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wendy's

My family recently ordered the spicy and regular.  I tried just the chicken on both and am convinced it's the same.

Wait stop. You think people like CFA because they’re anti-gay?  C’mon.

Yes.  And they love the gays.  But, 100% true story: The very cute drive-thru girl, who was black (I am old and fat and white, but had my family in the car) NEVER SAID ONE WORD TO ME.  Opened the window, took my money. It went like this:

Me: Hi there.

Her:   [closes window]

My son: Hmm....she didn't want to talk to you dad.

Me: Nope.

*one minute goes by*

Her: [opens window, hands me my change]    [closes window]

Me: THANKS!

Her: [window is closed...no response]

My son: Man Dad, she REALLY does not want to talk to you!

*3 minutes go by*

Her: [opens window, hands me our bag of food]

Me: Thanks!! So much!!  :excited:   I really apprec-

Her:   [closes window]

Me: -iate it!!!!  :excited: :excited:

My son: :lmao:
Reposting from another thread.  It's the best fast food chicken sandwich I've ever had.  Teenage son agrees.  TERRIBLE service.

The way the filet was made was a specific way for Popeyes and they didn’t anticipate that kind of demand. Needed a month to ramp up the production after it took off. Think they had production issues with the buns too.

I've visited Popeyes twice and there were signs that said 'no sandwich here'.  Screw that.  You can't be the best if you can't deliver the product.
Dearest Popeyes -

I believe I owe you an apology.  I played poker with my dad and two teenage sons last night until 10:30pm.  Though we ate dinner before we played at 7, we worked up quite a hunger and I ordered my son to drive us to your store for late-night take out.  There was no line, but you were open.  I eagerly ordered three of your spicy chicken sandwiches and 6 of your biscuits.  I didn't think it was possible to fall in love with just one bite....until now.  And now, I can't stop thinking about your sandwich.  The spicy chicken worked in perfect concert with your special bun.  Everything on that sandwich seemed to work together as beautifully as the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.  You are now 1.01 in my book and I am sorry I ever doubted you.

Your newest fan,

General Malaise

Had Popeye's again yesterday.  Didn't change my rankings.

1. Wendy's

2. CFA

3. Popeye's

Does Burger King still make that elongated monstrosity? That thing used to be the stuff of dreams when I was in my 20s, but now it is the stuff of nightmares.
Good call. I used to eat I think it was called the American one? with lettuce tomato cheese and mayo all the time

Makes me a little nauseous thinking about it now

My new go to burger is a double double animal style with chopped chilies and extra crispy fries. $$
