Orange Blossom Special ... Vassar Clements was a bad ###. Just discovered this guy and felt like creating a thread because of it.

Met Vassar a few times and have a friend who knew him well. A tremendously sweet guy. The definition of a southern gentleman. The real kind, not the kind that acts it but is in reality a ####. Dude played with everybody. And played well. My first exposure was John Hartford's Aereo-Plain, which remains a top five bluegrass record for me. Saw him a few times, with the last being the 2001 Telluride Bluegrass Festival. The man could throw down with the best musicians on the planet. And with heart. If you like Vassar, another I'd recommend checking out is Stephane Grappelli, who is my favorite fiddle/violin player. Played with Django.

Favorite "traditional" tune is Shenandoah.

ETA: I'm mixing TBF's. It was the year Old and in the Way (minus a certain banjo player) closed. More like '96.
