best gaming laptop 1k budget (1 Viewer)

There is an awesome gaming Lenovo on Newegg right now for $1004. Slick deals.net has the link.

okmaybe I can get this thread back on track. looking for a dumb laptop. 1k budget
Can I just ask, why the laptop for gaming over a desktop ? What kind of gaming do you think you're going to do on a laptop with its small keyboard, crappy mouse movements, short battery life ? Also, gaming laptops are known for dying earlier than normal laptops because the heating in a gaming laptop is terrible, since its in a small tightly packed space.

Are you going to bring a laptop to school / work ? I mean, why not just wait until you are home to game and do it the right way on a 24+ inch monitor, custom made desktop that outperforms any gaming laptop and with a regular size keyboard

NOW, if you already have a great desktop for gaming, and you have money to blow thats different.

I got a high end HP (dvt series or something like that) a few years ago that has worked well for me for about $1000. The challenge is finding one that doesn't look like it was designed for a 13 year old. I would have splurged on Alienware or something like that but I occasionally have to use mine for work.

My laptop is almost 4 years old... but it's a "gaming" laptop and has worked fantastically well. Asus i7 Q720.

I got it to use with AutoCad, Illustrator and Photoshop as a replacement for a desktop- hasn't let me down, performance-wise. Because this was in place of the desktop, I wanted a machine with as big a screen as possible- 17.3". Makes it tough to carry around- but it's possible. This unit has great built-in speakers too- better than any I've heard built-in for laptop or desktop- which I guess is important for gaming?

FWIW, the people who were Alienware sold it to Dell and opened a new company, Origin, and brought back a lot of the old employees apparently. I've bought a desktop from Origin once and have never had as good an experience buying a computer. I had a Windows 7 license I'd bought for another computer before realizing the motherboard couldn't be salvaged... all I had to do was send them the license key and they used it rather than charge me for a license... no other builder I talked to would do that. I also mentioned I had a SSD I'd purchased already for the dead computer, and they said I could ship them that and any other parts I might have and want included, and they would install them when they built it. Not that I needed it, but compared to every other company's policies I ran into, it was refreshing. No one else would include components I'd bought on my own, most wouldn't even let me deviate from what was listed on their site. A couple of years later Origin also helped me redo the overclocking over the phone, 24/7 lifetime support on it (and yes I called at 2am) and the guy helped quite a bit before having me call back during the day when their best overclocker would be in to get his advice on the last few settings.

Anyway, just figured I'd stump. They aren't cheap, but they made a big fan of me.
