OK, the first day is in the books and some fans are :pickle: while other fans are

Running Back

• Cory Ross, Nebraska

A Callahan-coached RB in the West Coast offense, even if his realistic upside is a 3rd-Down back in the NFL, still presents decent value on Day Two, IMHO.

I am a little surprised that both Ko Simpson and Darnell Bing (both talked about as late 1st-2nd rounders in the past few months) have slipped to day 2. I would love for one to fall to the Panthers in Round 4. Max Jean-Gilles slipping this far is surprising also. Guards just are a dime a dozen in today's NFL.

A few more of each, just in case...

I think some team is going to get a nice value in Babatunde Oshinowo. Jon Alston has the hype, but Baba was Stanford's best defensive player last year. He has good skills, a high motor, and a good attitude. I look for him to go off the board in round four.

Wasn't there a bunch of talk about teams jostling for position at the end of the first round to secure Darnell Bing? What happened to that guy?

I also thought Ko Simpson would go in the first two rounds. Throw in guys like Anwar Phillips, Dee Webb, Pat Watkins, DeMario Winter and Alan Zamaitus and you can't help but wonder if the depth at DB in this draft has allowed some very good talent to slide into the 4th round(or later?).

:goodposting: But we never completely agree. I think the Alston hype was appropriate, but Babatunde (great name) is going to start and be good in the NFL. I went to a Stanford game this year, and his name is just constantly on the PA. Not normal for a DT. He's very disruptive.

I agree, I would love any of the players you mentioned in the 4th round for the Panthers.

Was just reading about him....maybe for the Pats:Babatunde Oshinowo, Stanford – A perfect fit for the Patriots as a backup to Wilfork. Oshinowo has experience playing nose tackle in the 3-4 defense at Stanford and is very stout against the run. He’s a smart player and that allows him to recognize plays and get to the ball carrier despite his lack of quickness. Oshinowo isn’t a great inside pass rusher but neither is Wilfork. In a 3-4 defense, nose tackles need to take on blocks and stuff the run and that’s exactly what Oshinowo excels at. He isn’t as highly regarded because he lacks some of the physical skills teams crave. The Patriots, however, look for players who fit their system and Oshinowo is one of those players. If the Patriots can land Oshinowo on the second day, they will have another steal on their hands.

I posted some bright red flags on Bing and Simpson from a couple sites I agreed with. It appears the NFL agreed. Watch out for Darrell Hunter very early tomorrow among the DBs. Minter killed himself by getting regularly burned in his bowl game. Webb has character concerns. Zemaitas and Phillips were expected to fall. Watkins shouldn't last long tomorrow. Nice player.

definatly some great value left in day 2. The two safeties falling are very suprising, as well as some very good OL (Ryan OC, Jean Gilles, Eslinger). I think Zeimitis is gonna be a solid contributor for someone, and I could also see McNeil or Gradowski starting some day at QB (I think gradowski might even excel)

Link? Or mine summarizing them here.

I blogged it and posted here. The blog was easier to find.eta-- that's not the Ko Simpson stuff, but I have discussed him in many threads and why I didn't think he was all that. Very raw, immature, inexperienced, slow to react in coverage, gives up on plays, plays slower than he times... big tackle numbers from playiing in the box as a rover...

Thanks Jason and CC for the excellent info. Top notch. I'm a Vikings fan and I think we reached for a couple picks on Day 1, but these lists make Day 2 sound better.

Interesting info Commish, thanks for the reply. Would you happen to know why Zemaitas and Phillips were expected to fall or was it due entirely to depth at DB drafted in front of them?

Zemaitis and Phillips were a victim of two things...unreal depth at the CB position this year and a very disappointing Pro Day at Penn State.Only Manning and Pittman projected to go lower than either guy at NFL Draft Scout.

Bucs taking OL wasn't a surprise, and I'm a HUGE Davin Joseph fan...but based on consensus rankings for these guys, they took both a round or two early.

I still can't kill them though because I though Joseph was the top guard and should've gotten late 1st, early 2nd round consideration. Trueblood is a bit more :X IMHO.

You would never know that by the 54 million that Hutch got this year...

Of course they also "reached" for Kevin Williams. I guess sometimes they know better than we do...at least I hope so they get paid a lot more for it than I do ($0.00).

I don't mind either pick....i'm sure they grade OL prospects better than I do (as long as they are not Gators, they are OK in my book) but I agree they could have gotten better value by trading down and gotten the same players.

Wouldn't mind seeing the Cards take two of those offensive tackles.

I thought Scott was a projected second rounder??

Jon Scott and Rod Wright were both projected as sure fire first rounders before this season. Then their team went on to win the national title. I bet both are stunned they haven't gotten the call yet. Hopefully that will motivate them both. Wright, in particular, has a rep for being uninspired at times.

Good stuff Wood...I wouldn't mind seeing either of them or both of them come to AZ.

Good post Jason, very useful.

I'm also curious about Jai Lewis and Marcus Vick today.

When can teams sign undrafted players? With the very minimal risk+high reward I'd imagine a bunch of teams will be knocking on their door if they're not picked.

Will be interesting to see if DJ Shockley gets drafted and to where. Only QB he reminds me of is a poor mans Donovan McNabb
