At the moment, there are 16 votes for Brady/Moss (10%) as the best combination ever ... and their first season together has not even completed yet. I don't get it?
You don't know where you are, do you :towelwave: Honestly, is anyone even surprised they got votes :towelwave: anyway -It's either Montana/Rice, Harrison/Manning, or Unitas/Berry. Might be an old-timey combo I'm not thinking of that merits consideration, but can't think of one offhand. As a Colt fan I hate to say this, but I'd have to go Montana/Rice. Marino doesn't come into play because we're talking about a specific QB/WR combo and he didn't have that go-to WR....in fact makes you wonder, if he'd had Rice and a consistently reliable RB....wait, I forgot Pagel/Bouza :nightmarish flashback:Jones/Carr was awesome for a brief time and you have to wonder about the coulda/woulda if they'd stayed healthy though.

Brady/Moss can never enter the conversation until they play multiple seasons together.

Here's my take. Rice is the greatest receiver in the history of the game. You can't argue that. So I would have to narrow my choice down to either Montana or Young. Being a listener of Sirius NFL Radio and listening to Rice on many occasions talking frankly about his career (like a previous poster mentioned), he has said himself that Montana was his preferred ball slinger over Young, though the choice is close.

Without bias, the answer has to be Montana/Rice

Stabler to BiletnikoffBradshaw to SwannBaugh to JusticeSee, I can name a bunch of old guys who were really good too!But don't fool yourselves, those who think you're clever for naming Marino and Mark Duper and Clayton, or Fouts and Winslow Sr. It's either Young/Rice or Montana/Rice. And there's really no room for debate except between those two choices.
Don Hutson has receiving records that still stand today. And he played in the 40s. I think Isbell/Hutson is a very legitimate choice, since Hutson was the best receiver of all time and Isbell was an all-decade QB who would probably be a HoFer if he hadn't walked away early. I suppose you could go Herber/Hutson if you'd rather grab a pair of HoFers, but Isbell/Hutson was the more productive duo.

W/out hijacking the thread... Aikman had the tool set to put up Marino numbers. Anyone that thinks differently wasn't watching. There's no comparison between him and Rivers... I'm sorry. But, that's another debate..
This really doesn't mean anything. Ryan Leaf had that tool set too.
Ok... That by far has to be the most ignorant post I've ever seen in the Shark pool. We don't talk about Ryan Leaf much here... and damn sure don't compare him to HOFers. Ugh.

this is very simple.jerry rice is the greatest WR in the history of the nfl.he (and walsh) made joe montana look fantastic. then he made a man who the tampa bay buccanneers (your father's buc's) did NOT want look fantastic.if you say rice-montana/young based on rice being the greatest ever, i'm fine with that.if you're looking for a combo that was just simply phenomenal together, 2 guys that could produce with each other blindfolded, it's manning-harrison. they didn't have the greatest offensive mind in NFL history (walsh) as their coach. they had a defensive coach that just got out of their way b/c they were so good together.it's not just the #s that back it up (which they do in spades). watching them play, they took the concept of a QB/WR being on the same page to another level.
Ok... everyone knows, tons of VERY GOOD NFL TALENT went to Tampa Bay back in the day... and languished their careers away. Steve Young signed a record contract to play in the USFL... ala, Reggie White, Hershel Walker... that bunch. Please. He was an incredible athlete.
