Best Sports Interview Ever? (1 Viewer)

Oh. You were looking for serious interviews. I was going to suggest the Joe Namath / Suzy Kolber interview. Broadway Joe had had a few too many and in the middle of the sideline interview, Namath says he doesn't care about the Jets and says he wants to kiss her. Certainly in the opposite direction of where you were headed.

interview with USMNT star, Tyler Adams from this week... goes in depth into second-by-second decision making on his specific plays in previous games. Gives an amazing insight into how he reads and reacts to the game, as one of US soccer's young stars. I don't recall ever seeing a sports interview that does this with so much specificity and detail... although I'm sure they're out there.

Jim Gray interviewing Pete Rose back in 1999.

Gray was a grade A #####, but give him credit for not being afraid to ask the tough questions.

Yes he was asking the tough questions but what exactly would he have to "be afraid of"?  I know I'm biased, but my love for Rose has faded through the years.  However, it seemed like Gray was trying to take this opportunity to get the big scoop and get an admission on live TV.  It did feel out of place.

I meant not afraid in comparison to most sideline reporters who always go with the affable “how does it feel” cliche. But yeah, Gray was always angling to be a jerk and succeeded well at it.

It's very long but "Wake Up and Apologize" with Ali and Irish broadcaster Cathal O'Sannon is incredible.  Just so insightful and open.  Plus it's Ali so obviously it is funny.

He delivers a dramatic reading of his original poem

Freedom - Better Now

Better far— from all I see—
To die fighting to be free
What more fitting end could be?

Better surely than in some bed
Where in broken health I'm led
Lingering until I'm dead

Better than with prayers and pleas
Or in the clutch of some disease
Wasting slowly by degrees

Better than a heart attack
or some dose of drug I lack
Let me die by being black

Better far that I should go
Standing here against the foe
Is the sweeter death to know

Better than the bloody stain
on some highway where I’m lain
Torn by flying glass and pane

Better calling death to come
than to die another dumb,
muted victim in the slum

Better than of this prison rot
if there’s any choice I’ve got
Kill me here on the spot

Better for my fight to wage
Now while my blood boils with rage
Less it cool with ancient age

Better violent for us to die
Than to Uncle Tom and try
Making peace just to live a lie

Better now that I say my sooth
I’m gonna die demanding Truth
While I’m still akin to youth

Better now than later on
Now that fear of death is gone
Never mind another dawn.

Yep. I remember thinking Grey was a total ####### here. Now as a little kid I was a huge Reds fan and went to see The Big Red Machine and Rose’s teams he managed and also realize Rose is a creep but that was my take.
