2001 Seattle Mariners should be in the conversation along with maybe the 1983 Houston Cougars. Phi Slamma Jamma got beat by a dunk!

The 1997 and 1998 Utah Jazz.

Great team that would have won back to back titles in another era. Of all the teams the Bulls beat for their titles, these Jazz teams were the toughest to overcome.

The problem I have with the 98 Vikings is that as good as they were, I think the Broncos still beat them in the SB.

Seem to remember a Patriots perfect season spoiled in the final seconds by a sticky helmet.

I discount teams that lost in a series right out of the gate. If you were that good, how did you lose 4 games? Football, college basketball, etc....things can go wrong in a one game playoff.

This is some weird logic. For one thing, the Mariners won a series before they lost one. For another, all the best teams lose four games out of seven at some point. The 1927 Yankees lost 4 of 5 at one point.

The reason some sports have seven games series is partially because they have more game to game variance. There's no baseball or hockey or NBA teams with .850+ win percentages like you see all the time in the NFL or college basketball. So it's an apples and oranges comparison.

Came in to post this, has to be the winner here.
2007 Pats were maybe the best team any of us have ever seen for a half-season, but they weren't nearly as good after that. They went 1-8 against the spread in their last nine games (six regular season games, three playoff games). Got bailed out on an iffy fourth down penalty that got them a win over a crappy Ravens team and almost lost at home to a mediocre Eagles team. Also fell behind in both of their home playoff games against relatively weak teams. Still a decent choice here because they were just out of control for those first ten games, but they were showing some serious cracks by the time they got to the Super Bowl.
