Flawed question.

Hands down, the best chip available - no matter what flavor you want:

I agree 100% and I mentioned this above your post there, hands down my favorite chips when I can find them. The thing that irritates me about this brand (Great Lakes) is that sometimes I'll find them in Costco in some random area of the store. The next time I visit Costco they're nowhere to be found. Sometimes I'll find them in Sam's Club in some random area of the store, sometimes with the other chips, most of the time they're just not there. Sometimes I will find small bags in Kroger or Meijer on the bottom shelf with the generic store brand chips or at the very top in the middle of the non-chips (like with Cheetos or Funions or something.) I really don't understand why they are not on the shelves consistently; I find that really annoying and odd about this brand.
Yeah - they are kind of hit or miss for me too - I'll buy a couple of the big bags when I see the Cherry BBQ flavor chips at Costco.

But, I'll try just about about any of their flavors - just a really good chip.

Zapps. I remember when they were a very local brand and was overjoyed when they finally made it over to Alabama. Now it seems they're all over.

And heck, they may still be the only worthwhile thing located in Gramercy, LA.

I don't understand how Ruffles is getting votes here.
Because they have ridges?

Or the other choices aren't great or never heard of them. This was my reasoning. I hadn't heard of most of these other brands. Although I probably should have gone with Kettle but my favorite is Ruffles Jalapeno Ranch so that is why I went with Ruffles.

I think it's "Oohtz," actually, and I think I worked with a woman down in D.C. who may or may not have been heiress to the Utz kingdom.

That was the rumor and I'm pretty sure it was true. We were all pretty young, so who really knew. Rumors at work are awesome, aren't they?

I've drawn my line in the sand about this before, by the way.

I think Muchos are the bomb. Been saying it on this board since God knows. Like 2015 or something. Decade of Munchos.

As long as you don't pronounce it Youtz like Joe Peschi in My Cousin Vinny.

Voted Kettle.

On the Utz pronunciation, how isn't it "uhhtz"?

Wasn't there an "Utz are better than nuts" ad campaign, or is that some sort of Mad Men/Mandela effect thing on my memory.

Anyway if that ad campaign was real it seems pretty obvious how Utz is pronounced.

And it just seems like the proper pronunciation.

Utz are big around my way, and we've always pronounced the U like 'uh'.

As for the ad, it was a story arc on Mad Men, and I linked the scene with the commerical in my first post in the thread. Here it is again.

The good ol' days when $4 seemed expensive for a bag of chips

I only want Taiwanese chips. That shouldn’t be too hard or cause too many problems, right? Just good old-fashioned super dipped chips from Taiwanco. Golden Conductors, I think they’re called. I’d go cuckoo for them.

Ruffles All Dressed are the GOAT. If I have to choose something widely available in USA give me Utz or Zapps.

Pringles compacted chip dust a distant last place.

And I'm sorry you only get those Lays All Dressed down there. They're not in the same ballpark as Ruffles for All Dressed.

They used to sell a BBQ Munchos that was even better.

I gotta be straight. I hate barbecue sauce even on ribs. I’ll do a dry rub, but BBQ sauce is all sugar no heat (in general). Don’t dig it on a chip or on a rib,

There may be a little bias here because I worked for Frito Lay for 30 years.

Personally I prefer regular chips, so I voted Lays over Ruffles. Both only have three ingredients. Potatoes, salt and oil. They do use a different type of potato for the Ruffles.
Kettle chips seem like a different category. I much prefer Lays Kettle chips over the Kettle brand. I absolutely love both Lays Kettle BBQ and Jalapeno .
Someone else mentioned another brand owned by Frito Lay, Miss Vickies. Like a kettle chip and I love the Jalapeno flavor.

The only thing I miss in retirement is having "free" chips. Tostitos and crunchy Cheetos were two of my favorites. I actually just bought some Jalapenos Cheddar Cheetos yesterday. Damn, I gonna put this phone down and go get some now . :pickle:

I am glad you clarified because I have had the Lays version and they are meh.
If you're in the midwest, Old Dutch makes a variant that is pretty solid as well (unless it's made for Canada market).

I don't imagine people understand how popular All Dressed are up here, I did a count a while ago out of curiosity and there are at least 30 different brands making All Dressed chips and lots with multiple variants i.e. Walmart Canada makes Great Value versions of standard All Dressed, a rippled All Dressed, a kettle cooked All Dressed, an Extreme All Dressed (more flavour powder or whatever) and a "Scorching Hot" All Dressed, Old Dutch does similar (standard, kettle, ridgies, rip-l), every "store brand" has at least a regular version and probably a rippled and kettle version. We have All Dressed PopChips, Crispy Minis, Party Mix, it goes on and on.

I think people associate Ketchup chips with Canada and sure, we have lots of those up here too but All Dressed is legitimately far and away the #1 flavour and obviously the market demand supports more and more and more versions of it. It's kind of crazy but they are also my favourite, so who am I to argue.

Also, potato chips (and french fries) are my favourite thing in the world, that question that always comes up of you have to give up one of meat, alcohol, sex or whatever... if you throw chips in the mix, I am not giving them up over at least two of those three alternatives. I figure if you removed chips and beer from my diet, I'd probably be about 160 lbs, rather than fighting tooth and nail to stay around 200, I'd also have far less enjoyment of life. Now my wife and I try to keep it to one bag a weekend but we have a spreadsheet for tracking different flavours we try, we both rate them all etc...

Her current favourite are Lays Old Fashioned BBQ. Like standard BBQ with an extra kick of spice.

How would you describe the flavor? Its kind of BBQ but not really, its kind of vinegary but not really, it's just odd but interesting. I have only had it a couple times and I can see the potential but don't feel as if I have had a quality version.

Yeah, they do have that bit of vinegar (far less than a salt and vinegar that I could never eat a full bag of) and the smokiness of barbecue but there should be some garlic and onion sweetness in the mix that balances out the tang of the vinegar and the smoke of the barbecue, I think this is what the Lays are missing, so the balance of the whole thing is thrown off and it comes across as just a vinegary BBQ.

Edit to add - All Dressed chips are also always dairy free, I don't know why that is but helpful for those with allergies and diet restrictions. Drives me crazy when I pick up a bag of salt and pepper or something chips and see "modified milk ingredients" on the label... why? (I know it's apparently to help the seasoning stick or something).

Same vibes.

I haven't had a soda in 20+ years. Absolutely no interest in anything sweet. I've had fast food about three times in the last decade.

But like you if it were not for beer and chips I'd weigh about 160 lb.

I don't restrict the beer. That just is what it is.

I wish I had the willpower like you and your wife to keep the chips in check. But I don't.

I very rarely buy them anymore.

Becaise when I do...... It doesn't matter the size of the bag, it's a single serving.

I feel the exact same way as you do about chips minus the spreadsheet (that's just weird) but I am a certified chipaholic except that I'll go weeks on end w/out buying them b/c I will destroy bags of chips w/out thought, remorse, pity or mercy. That stated, I absolutely detest all dressed chips. They're right up there with warm, flat, light beer, burnt pizza and Oscar Meyer anything. My wife is Canadian, born and raised near Hamilton, she pretty much never eats junk food. My son and my wife WILL eat all dressed chips though, they both love them. I have become convinced it's a Canadian thing and that it's clearly genetic! :)

Maybe it evolved alongside the poutine gene.

i dont even know if i like these or i just like saying these but these and old dutch take that to the spicy bank brotators

Props to those that voted for Herr's.

Not the greatest, most amazing, quality chips from what I remember, but man, they've always had the craziest assortment of flavors.

I see they just added Tomato Pie, and Stromboli flavors.

I don't know what Long Hot's are, but I guess the Philly folk do. Sounds delicious.
Seems to be a Jalapeno and Provlone flavor.

Not meant to be a hot take, but Jalapeno (or other chile) and cheese is probably the king of salty snack flavors.

Zapp's Crawtators for the win for me by a large margin. Although I did prefer them when they were a local LA product and only used peanut oil. Not quite as good since Utz bought them.
Their Voodoo flavor is like crack to me.
I did a chip exchange at Bonnaroo, trading my Ruffles All Dressed for Zapp's Voodoo.. they are extremely good.
Just ate a bag of Voodoo yesterday and introduced a friend to them. So good. Like a vinegar chip with lagniappe.
