Hmm. State pride.Mostly a bunch of states with low population. If you live in Montana, you probably really, really want to live there.
yeah, for "the best states to live in" they have surprisingly few people actually living there.

Except Texas of course.

the only places my wife would accept living in would be Colorado and San Antonio.

Clearly, population density is highly overrated.

This must be a all whitey "best states to live" poll. 8 of those states are the whitest in America.
I see six that are pretty white. What are your eight?
You could say seven are pretty white: Vermont, NH, Wyoming, Utah, ND, Montana, Colorado were all in the Top 15 whitest states as of 2008.Hawaii has done astounding job of keeping white people the hell out of their paradise, at 24%. We'll see how much that changes when Big Bottom wins the lottery.
Colorado has changed quite a bit since 2008, but I suppose it might still be pretty white.
Wiki data is old:

States with the highest percentages of White Americans, as of 2007:[43]

States with the highest percentages of non-Hispanic whites, as of 2007:[44]

1. Montana

2. Alaska

3. Utah

4. Wyoming

5. Texas

6. Hawaii

7. New Hampshire

8. North Dakota

9. Colorado

MISSOULA, Mont. -

Missoula's KettleHouse Brewing Company took home a gold award from the 2014 World Beer Cup presented April 11 in Denver, Colo.

A panel of 219 international judges evaluated beers from around the world and presented awards in 94 categories.

KettleHouse received gold for the brewery's Double Haul IPA beer, in the English Style IPA category.

That list is pretty geared towards needing electric warming socks. Besides Texas and hawaii, the top 10 are skier delights.

I live in South Carolina, where white gravy is considered a vegetable.

I love the Carolinas. Not too hot, not too cold. Cost of living is affordable.

The occasional hurricane kind of sucks, but they are manageable.

Agreed. Not a lot of states have both good beaches and beautiful mountains, with manageable weather, as well as decent sized cities with airports for easier travel (without crazy high taxes).

Best states in my opinon should have decent mountains (over 3500 maybe) and access to large bodies of water (preferrably warm).
On that scale, I'd say Virginia, North Carolina and Hawaii are the best, with South Carolina, Georgia and California in the next group.

After that start looking at cost of living, higher education and health care facilities.

Just checking highest elevation towns in each state and would need to drop South Carolina and Georgia, although both are close to the Blue Mountains in NC and Ten.
Would add Texas as I did not know they had such high elevations in some places and Utah if we want to count Salt Lake as a big enough. Maybe Nevada too with Tahoe. More of an ocean or gulf guy myself.

1. Montana - lived for 10 years

2. Alaska - worked for 1 year

3. Utah

4. Wyoming - lived for 15 years

5. Texas - lived here for 13 years now

6. Hawaii

7. New Hampshire

8. North Dakota - lived for 4 years as a kid, but then also worked for 1 year as an adult

9. Colorado - most my family lives here now, visit alot, but never lived there

10: Vermont

I would move back from Texas to to either Wyoming or Montana in a heartbeat.

I would even accept New Mexico around Santa Fe area or even a smaller town like taos or Los Alamos. Biggest problem with New Mexico compared to Wyoming or Montana is you have to watch school districts.

North Dakota sucks and kind of makes the list suspect. Although I wouldn't put Texas in the top 10 list either.

Va state tax rate 5.75. Hawaii 7.6%+. Cali likely 8%+.
