I don't really see this talked about much, but what day of the week is the best to draft? I originally thought Sunday night's, but I have found that people want to spend time with their families then. Is it a weekday at night? What about Saturday during the day? I am curious of everyone's thoughts.

Really going to depend on your league and what kind of jobs they have but we've always had ours on Saturday at noon. I think more important than the when is consistency. We always know our draft will be the 3rd Saturday in July at noon and everyone can plan way ahead. Our league holds that date sacred.

Whatever day you can get all owners together. The optimum day this year...all things being equal...and all owners being available...is the Thursday before Labor Day (August 30th).

I always have them on Sunday afternoon. During the week is tough, b/c alot of people work til 5 and usually you can't get started until around 6, so I would just rather save it for the weekend, around noon-ish.

At GMT +1 we always hope for daytime drafts (your time) during the weekend, rarely happens though.

I always go weekday evenings...although that is because all of the owners in my league have day jobs. Thats what you have to look at. I am going August 30th this year. I have guys across the country so I have to take time zones into consideration. One piece of advice though... make it clear leading up to the draft that it will take a considerable amount of time...(mine last year took 3 1/2 hours)... make sure your owners plan on this time. A few years ago I had people complaining left and right... kind of stupid, but people complain about stupid things. As the commish you have to lay down the law in detail FOR EVERYTHING.

Do not leave out any details .... draft time, place, RULESAlways have it Saturday night. Golf at 2:00, pizza at 5:00, draft start at 6:00, hold em approx. 9:30ish, home about 1:00 to 2:00. Beer all day long, if so desired. I always call it Christmas in August. I have the same excitement for draft day that I had for Christmas when I was a kid (and still kind of have although it is more of a kid holiday).

We usually hold ours on the Saturday prior to the final exhibition game -- this year Aug. 25th. It's around 11 am, with the hope that the guys who were out drinking on Friday night will be hung over enough to have a bad draft. I've tried Sundays and no one really likes that.
Yeah, if you have a bunch of weekend security guys in your league the weekend would not be best. I believe Friday or Saturday are ideal, with Sat. being the best. The Sat. draft with golf then washers, pong, shoes, ladder golf (all for money), then the draft, with the commish rating all the teams with a grade, then cards, then bed. I agree it is Xmas in August and I get sooooooooooo pumped for every draft!!!

Setting the date was the single biggest headache I've ever had as a commish. So a couple of years ago we started scheduling next year's auction at this year's auction. That's staved off a lot of problems since.
We do it Sunday afternoon. Most of us would prefer Saturday night but one of our long time owners has a busy bar and we do the Sunday thing to accommodate him.

we always draft labor day weekend, its the end of the preseason, if for some reason we can't schedule it for saturday we push it back till sunday and everyone still gets monday to recover/relax. works out well.

For the last 3 years in my league we always have the live draft on Saturdays @ 1
o Enough time to grill, do 17 rounds and get drunk at the end while fighting about whose draft was the best and whose was awful
Everyone knows every year it will be at 1 on saturdays so theres really no excuses, so far no one had to go to any weddings or bridal showers,

We always try to do my main league with buddies on Labor Day evening.....been doing it then for 4 years now.

I do back to back drafts on Labor Day Sunday. I start them at noon and they end about 6. Both are 10 team leagues and 8 of the owners are the same in both leagues. One is an auction redraft league and the other is a serpentine keeper league.

We have typically drafted on the last Saturday in August starting around 11:00-11:30. However, a number of league owners are taking vacations that weekend so we are doing it Sunday afternoon of Labor Day this year.

Definitely Sat during the day so you can grill out and not be rushed (unless you have some tards who give you the "hurry up and let's finish" BS). Have the "S.O." drop you off @ the house of the guy hosting the draft and tell her to go (with or w/o kids) and go to the park or shopping or whatever and make it up to her later. Having it during the week would really suck....
