Best vs Smith (1 Viewer)

Not really a versus, but you get the picture. Any homers have a feel about the carry breakdown for the Lions? Can Best be a workhorse? Are we looking 70/30?

80/20 on carries. Jones plays with a lot of heart, but was booed by the fans. If Best is not the workhorse, the fans will riot. Best will get 16-20 touches a games, Jones will get 4-5.

Wrong Kevin, and I don't really think the audience is voting on who plays.Remarkably correct other than that.

2006-2009 for the Lions was just a blur.... :)

You guys think Best is worth pick one in 3rd Round of a 14 teamer? 29th overall?

If he lasts that long, go for it.Still kicking myself for taking Benson at the 2/3 turn, thinking I could pickup Best as my RB3 at the 4/5. Now my primary backup RB is R Bush.

Yeah. I draft on Thursday. He may not be there at the beginning of the 3rd. Just wondering if it was a tad of a stretch to take him there but I wouldn't get him if I didn't do it there..

all signs point to a Forte/Slaton type rookie year. Forte was #2 Slaton #7 I think Best is stone cold lock for top 10 if he stays healthy.

yeah. he looks really really good. I think the Lions are really going to make a leap this year. If Best & CJ can stay healthy.. this offense will be really good

I am picking him up late 2nd in 12 man leagues. If he lasts through the 3rd round in a 14 team league, no one is paying attention.

I agree here 100%. Best is the #1 back, this is not RBBC. Also, I'm not sure Kevin Smith makes the team. Maurice Morris and Aaron Brown will get more carries than Kevin Smith.

It's not through the 3rd round. It's pick one in the 3rd. 29th overall. We have a strange way that we draft in one league. We draft cards for the 1st 3 rounds. So I actually have pick 10 & 19.. & number 1 in the 3rd. 29th overall pick is where I would be targeting him.

I think he is a top 12 pick who I have picked up at 22 and 23. So 29th to me is not too early. Even with the hyped up price, I still think most are undervaluing him.

thanks. Not sure if he will even be there but at least it's another option.

This article makes it sound like Smith might get waived. Which would be surprising, unless Aaron Brown has looked good ? Because having only Maurice Morris to backup Best would be scary.

Lions don't know whether they will keep Kevin Smith

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 1, 2010 9:53 AM ET

I've always been a fan of Lions running back Kevin Smith, if only because he was the guy on the 0-16 Lions that seemed to care the most, to be most bothered by the losing.

He looked like the rare Matt Millen draft pick that would stick.

One regime change and a devastating knee injury later, the Detroit Free Press writes that Smith may not even make the Lions roster this year.

"I don't know," coach Jim Schwartz said when asked about Smith's status Tuesday. "I'll cross that bridge when we get there. I don't know that there's very many people that have 100% earned a spot."

Smith offers no special teams value, and he's been unable to cut loose after tearing his ACL last year. He's well-liked and carries out his assignments, but Schwartz hasn't seen a lot of confidence.

"Kevin's a very, very smart football player, and he's going to do the right thing," Schwartz said. "He's got a lot of trust from those things. He just needs -- and it's not so much earning our trust -- he just needs to get his own trust with his knee and everything else.

Smith wasn't originally expected to be ready for Week One, but he wound up practicing on day one of training camp. That's one of the risks and cruel realities of being "ahead of schedule" in your rehab.

The Lions have to decide whether Smith, not truly back yet, is worth waiting for.

Yeah, like I have been saying, Kevin Smith is done in Detroit. Maurice Morris played just as good (if not better) last season. DeDe Dorsey and Aaron Brown have shown a lot more this preseason than Smith. If you think Morris being the backup to Best is scary, you obviously haven't seen Smith this preseason. Smith looks downright terrible. He is fumbling and tripping over his own feet.
