Best/Worst Sports Talk Radio Show? (1 Viewer)

Still the Dan Patrick Show for national shows for me.

Caught some of Dan LeBatard's radio show that they also have on TV when I was traveling a couple of weeks ago. Didn't even know that was a thing. The day I watched was good.

I don't know who he is, but after the Monday Night games, there's some guy on with a raspy voice...horrible...he doesn't know WTF he's talking about most of the time...
Scott Ferrall.  horrible.

I have come around on Colin Cowherd.  Used to think he was just another "fling poo on wall, see what sticks" kind of guy (Stephen A., Bayless, etc.) but I must admit, he's grown on me.
I enjoy listening to him.  Yeah, his point spread picks are awful, but he often has interesting takes and manages to keep you interested the whole time, IMO.  I will usually DVR The Herd and listen to some of it in the evening.  And if nothing else, unlike a lot of shows these days, he mostly keeps it all about sports without feeling the need to always interject politics into the conversation.

yeah, this is a part of the package with him. he's very insecure and needs the constant validation of his status.

but he's a good interviewer, the show has the right tone for me, etc.

one thing i don't like is he covers the same topics with the same takes as everyone else.. while pretending that there isn't a company wide missive that goes out telling him what topics to touch on and what angle to take. he did that at ESPN, too. tries to sell the show as some alternative voice with original ideas but you can go down the line of "hot topics" and the consensus takes and he's regurgitating them word for word.......... usually........ while trying to reinforce the idea that he's not just talking about the story because someone told him he had to.

that's one reason i like Czaban. that guy just talks about whatever the #### he wants and has his own.... long-winded..... opinion.
I watched DP a few times while home sick a couple years ago.  As I recall he sits there and when his crew wants to say something they have to wait for him to allow it?  Like he holds his hand up until their allowed to go?  Weird.

I think that is to prevent to many people talking at once. One of the problems with shows like Le Batard and even The Tony K is when too many people are saying things that are often stupid.

One of my favorite parts of the show are the 'look-ins' when they are on TV, but not radio. Some of the funnier bits happen then.

he talks with his hands so sometimes i think it may happen where he wants to finish a thought and he motions for them to wait. they have to punch a button to speak but i think that's more to prevent background noise/interruptions as they type, move computers, cough, etc.

doesn't seem unusual for a radio show that's trying to deliver a clear sound

It works pretty seamless. One of the best parts about the show is the Danettes how they are more like regular guys rather then writers or ex athletes.

I've noticed Paulie sort-of raising his hand (he puts a couple fingers by his temple) when he wants to talk.

With all of the cameras and stuff moving around in the Danettes area, you can understand why they want to have that separation.

In fact most other radio shows have that separation, they just don't interact on air with the people sitting behind the glass. One of the few that did it was SVP with Stanford Steve his producer.

Isn't the guy named Seton O'Conner?

The other guy is Todd Fritz so Fritzy isn't exactly a stretch, they do a 3 hour show 5 days a week so nicknames seem like they would just happen like they do in any normal work place.
No, its Patrick O'Connor. They still have lame nicknames, and they all seem like sycophants to DP rather than friends. Plus its a lame show.

His name is Patrick Seton O'Conner but since the host is named Dan Patrick I think they used Seton to avoid confusion.

Sounds like you don't like the show though

Dan Patrick is too much of a narcissist for me.  He interviewed Scott Van Pelt a week or so ago and spent the entire time asking questions about himself - to have SVP talk about Patrick.  If it were an occasional occurrence it would be one thing, but it's several times a week.

I've started listening to Clay Travis - who recently replaced the un-listenable North and Furman on Fox Daybreak.

I suspect it won't be long before I can't tolerate Travis either, but for now it's the only option in the car during the morning drive.

I do enjoy Russillo and Kanell right now.  I'd like Le Batard a lot more if Stugotz had a muzzle.
Clay Travis was pretty good as the comic relief when he started in Nashville a few years back, but I have a hard time imagining how well he does with host duties.

Travis was best when it seemed like he barely paid attention, throwing in one-liners and chasing tangents down rabbit holes. His comebacks to haters and poor callers were pretty weak, generally trying to pick at their spelling or grasp of the English language than what they were actually saying.

I'm unsure how the above translates to his own show.

Really sucks not to have Czabe on in the mornings anymore but at least he's still around doing the afternoon slot here in D.C.I didn't agree with him on a lot of things but I always enjoyed his take on things so I kept coming back for more.He was negative some of the times for sure and especially on the NFL and Goodell but it was a voice that needed to be heard in a field that does nothing but constantly lick the taint of the NFL.

Caught some of Cowturd on Fox and it's the same old Turd.Only saving grace for him is the hottie he has in with him.

Clay Travis is a new local option in our area on Fox Sports Radio 6am-9am.

I like him if for no other reason he refers to Mike & Mike as losers.  Sometimes he goes off on a bit of a rant sounding like a  #####, but for the most part, he's a welcome change to the horrible line up in our area.
