Best.... (1 Viewer)

What is everyone's thoughts on Best? Is the toe injury too much for him to regain form? I see Kevin Smith is taking carries and yards away from him now and that is a concerning sign. I have an offer for him - Branch for Best. Just wondering what people see him doing going forward. Thanks.

I'm holding him as his value is not high for trading purposes. He still gets a lot of touches in an offense that puts up points.

:sigh:

We couldn't ask this question in one of the 10+ page Jahvid Best threads out there? It's ACF material anyways. Branch for Best, really?!

There have been several factors working against the Lions and Best so far. The schedule has been tough, they lost their starting QB in game 1, and Jahvid hurt his toe.

He's been playing and starting with the injury though. The bye week seems to be coming at a perfect time for the Lions. Stafford should be returning, 6 of the Lions last 10 games are at home (where Best and Detroit in general play much better), and other than the Jets in week 9 the defenses they face aren't nearly as imposing as some of the teams they've already played.

I'd say he's a pretty solid RB2 going forward.

Agreed. In ppr I'm holding. I think the week off will help. Hoping that Jahvid will get even more involved in the passing game going forward. Should make for a solid flex play most weeks if not a RB2.

You take away his biggest asset (speed/shiftiness) with that toe and he's just an undersized pass catching RB at this point. He will get nearly two weeks of rest so there's no reason to think that a young guy like him can't heal and regain his form barring a setback.

DET is inconsistent, but explosive. Matt Stafford is coming back. Best gets two weeks to rest.

In PPR leagues, I think he's a hold.

You can see the difference in his burst since the injury. I don't think you'll see much of anything until next season, at which point he'll be undervalued, IMO.

Bunch of chicken little's in here.

He'll come back after the BYE fresh and healthy. Not to mention he's one of the few backs in the league that's heavily involved when the team is down. Buy low while you can.

Toe injuries are nasty for RB's and WR's. Plus Detroit is not that good.
Not true, they are much better than their record and are close to being a team to be reckoned with. They've had to go at it with injuries to all 3 of their big guns. But a little rest and a schedule which has 5 of the next 7 games at home (not to mention Buffalo and Dallas roadies) will have them scoring plenty.Besides, this is FF, all we care about is that offense so I don't even know what the "not good" thing means.

This.Detroit hung in very well against 5 very good teams and throttled StL (who is looking better themselves). Kevin Smith? Cmon man.Buy low. ETA: Top 250 fwd says RB6 in PPR.

We'll see a difference in his production when Stafford gets back and teams have to respect the deep ball. They didn't have to with Hill. I also think they need to force feed Best on screens and short routes in space. They still aren't doing a good enough job of this.

Bests game is quick sharp cuts and being explosive, a lingering turf toe injury that will last the whole season will limit Bests ability to do those things.

The Best owners in my leagues have been trying to peddle him the last couple of weeks to no avail.

The thing that none of us knows is how significant the toe injuries are. He hasn't missed any time, so I'm guessing he might be pretty close to 100% after the bye week. Might be a lingering injury, but the fact that he hasn't missed a game suggests to me that it's not too serious.

He is clearly not the same back that he was prior to the season. He is missing the explosion and lateral movement will limit his upside until the injury is healed. If you think his injury will heal he is a buy because he is a terrific player in a great situation. If his injury does not heal we have seen the Best of him this year.

 I think Best is a great buy low candidate. Best should be pretty explosive on that home turf as we have seen in the past. His rushing stats are not great, but he pulls in plenty of catches and yards, and should be a high RB2 in PPR formats.

I just don't get the Best love. Aside from his reception totals & a few GL TDs, his numbers are bad for a starting RB, regardless if it's injury-related.

I own Best in a 10-team league & I'm scared to start him. I guess we'll see if he looks any better after 2 weeks off. Unless you're in a PPR league, Best is not top-20.

He is a hold. No one will buy with the injury. Plus he's not that good, over hyped to start with. FF teams should of sold him after week one.

I don't see much more then a #4 RB going forward.

How are people so sure that two weeks off will heal his turf toe? It can take much longer than that to heal.
I'm definitely not sure, but time off definitely helps. So I don't think he will be in worse shape, and he is still playing and putting up decent numbers in PPR leagues. I expect that to at least continue, if not improve.

This offense is set to NOXPLODE! with Stafford back after the bye.

Buy! Buy! Buy!

You got it. This week off will do this team wonders....I not buying into the Stafford being the teams savior. I think he has a lot of things he needs to improve on. He will command a little respect because of his arm though, and I think that will open things up a bit for Best. If Stafford can come out and have a couple great games right away with Calvin, Best could then become less of a focus for defenses. Right now teams are making Hill beat them, and try to limit Best. The million dollar question is whether Stafford can get it done.

Second in the NFC in points scored isn't good? The offense can't help it if their defense sucks.
Agreed. Anyone still beating the Detroit is not that good drum hasn't been paying attention this year.
 Despite records I think the Lions are a better team than these NFC teams:Cardinals

Panthers

Bears

Bucs

Seahawks

49ers

Rams

I have them tied with the Cowboys. Like the Cowboys the Lions have been close to winning their games. (except for the Minn game)

I'll assume you're fishing? If he's a RB4 in your mind then he shouldn't be a "hold," because certainly there's someone in your league that values him much higher than that. It's pretty obvious that the toe injury hampered his speed and shiftiness a bit. We all saw how explosive Jahvid could be before the injury. It's a positive sign that he was able to play through any pain, and the time off should allow Best to get back up to full speed.Best had one spectacular game and one average game at home. The Lions' other four games were on the road against Chicago, Minnesota, Green Bay, and the NY Giants. Those are four stout home defenses, and his output in Chicago and GB was serviceable at worst.8 of Best's remaining 10 games (6 at home) are on turf, and the two that aren't happen to be in Tampa and Miami. Lot's of shoot-outs and fantasy points left for the Lions and their opponents.

I have heard interviews with Best a couple of times on local radio saying that he will not be 100% again the rest of the season but that he will try and play through it and not miss any time.

Just watching Best you can see that he is not the same since the turf toe injury. Remember that LT was a shell of himsef with the same injury and now he is tearing it up again when healthy. It would have been in Bests best interest to sit a month after the original injury. Due to the Lions lack of talent and need for wins that did not happen.

The Problem is the Detroit OLINE isnt good, in fact its terrible especially at run blocking.Their front 4 on D is very good, its the back 7 that sucks.

Best wil have some decent games vs Wash and Buff etc. But there is also NYJets, GB, Minn, NE still on the schedule too.

Best will be a good draft day bargain next year. This toe injury will linger as some have stated. The bye week will help, but nothing like a whole offseason to heal.

Exactly. I like Stafford and expect big things in the future but im not understanding the thinking that the Lions offense will explode with him in the line up. Hes gonna have some good games and some really horrible ones. He is after all only making his 12th career start when he comes back after the bye.

RB Jahvid Best's case of turf toe is feeling "considerably" better after just a couple days of rest and he expects to be 100 percent healthy for the game against the Redskins Oct. 31.
