I think they are pretty comparable actually. I realize I am probably in the minority, but I just don't see McGahee being ahead of Benson by much, if at all really. Its a push in my book.

Even if you have them projected equally, which one is more proven and which one has anything resembling a possible backup that could become a starter?

McGahee has proven more....he's at least played a whole season

McGahee is a better receiver, which will keep him on the field more

Both teams have great D's....even

My vote is McGahee. Not by a ton, as I think Benson will get more rushing TD's, but the receiving yards will be the difference.

BTW, both would make fine RB2's

Also, as Jeff said, if Benson continues to be scissorhands like he was at practice yesterday (I was there and saw him drop 5 of 6 balls thrown to him....he seems to have no hands unless it is right in his numbers). I don't know if Adrian Peterson could threaten him, but I'll tell you Garrett Wolfe should be on the field for 3rd down. Good blocker even at his size and he is QUICK

I don't like either one of them to be honest with you but to be fair Willis McGahee has actually rushed for over 1100 yards twice in a season. I'm not a real big schedule guy but if you look at who Baltimore plays in 07 it's ridiculous. It comes down to whether Willis McGahee has the talent to make the most of his matchups.

good replies guys, thanks, i was looking at this because in the middle of the 2nd both might be avaiable . but im not sure who to take. i think magahee will have a good year and is proven but benson has alot of upside. tuff call

McGahee hands down, we dont even know if Benson can carry a full load yet. Its a choice of established/un-established. I dont even think Benson has the upside that would make it worth the risk of not taking McGahee.

Benson FTW.

All of you saying "What has Benson proved?" What had Chester Taylor proved before last year? Nothing. It is all about the situation. Benson is in the better situation and won't get run into the ground like Chester did last year. McGahee has proven time and again he is a steaming pile of dog crap though. I'm never picking him again.

Another minority vote for Benson. A very talented Rb with a great opportunity now. McGahee had regressed for the past couple of years. I will take the guy who has not been given the opportunity over the player who has been under performing. I feel Benson can be that RB that launches into the top 10 (maybe top 5) this year.

I don't think Chester Taylor is the best example to use. While he hadn't yet rushed for over 1000 yards in a season, you could argue that Taylor outplayed Jamal Lewis in Baltimore in the 2004 and 2005 seasons so it wasn't like he's coming out of nowhere. I think the Ravens wish they had Taylor right now. I don't know that Cedric Benson is as good as Chester Taylor right now.McGahee is in the better situation in my opinion. The Ravens have a better offense and defense than the Bears. The offensive line is a work in progress I'll admit. Willis McGahee also gets to play Cleveland and Cincinnati twice. That has to count for something right?

I don't think either running back is all that great but when I'm picking between the totally unproven player or the semi-proven player I go with the production over the potential every single time.

 I know what Im getting with mcgahee and that isnt much, id rather take the chance on Benson. He hasnt proven he stinks.

I'd take Benson. He has low mileage and a good system. I'm still not sold on the effectiveness of the Baltimore offense. McGahee has had plenty of chances to thrive and while he's had some promising moments, he just hasn't gotten over the hump. He has, however, succeeded in taking an absolute beating from defenses over the last few years.

I think Benson is in for a very solid year.

Ditto for me, Benson is coming back to the same team in the same system and the only guy that was a threat to steal carries is gone. I have some question marks about Baltimore's O-line, how they are gonna adapt the offense to fit McGahee and whether or not one of those other RB's comes in as a role player.Benson may not be the sexier pick of the 2, but he is the safer one.

I vote NEITHER.

Take Harrison, CJohnson, Holt, or Steve Smith and you have no worries about busting your 2nd rounder.

McGahee = PROVENBenson is a first time starteer in the NFL. we KNOw what McGahee can do as a starter, Benson is the Great Unknown..

I would pick McGahee. I think his performance is due to the fact that he has been unhappy in Buffalo that past couple years and now with a new team he will be motivated to prove everyone wrong and will have one heck of a season. Benson isn't a bad choice don't get me wrong but I have a feeling about McGahee this season.

:goodposting: You forgot Wayne.
Fair enough. But then who do you end up with as your RB2 and will you trust him at all?If you go something like RB1/studWR/Jacobs or Caddy, would that make you feel better than RB1/McGahee/TJHoush or Driver or Evans?I'm not saying I have the answer right now and alot depends on which slot you draft from, but I've gone back and forth on this exact thing. Heck I might even go RB/WR/WR/Ahman Greensince I'm pretty high on Ahman this year and he might put up stats as good as McGahee or Benson.Might.

:own3d: I wouldn't say he stinks, but what you have seen from McGahee is pretty much his ceiling. Benson on the other hand has a much higher ceiling. McGahee probably has a higher floor than Benson though. My choice would be Benson.

Take a peek at the schedules they both face. BAL is behind only JAX as the easiest run schedule in 2007...

Willis faces CIN, NYJ, ARI, CLE, SF, STL, and BUF in the first 7 weeks

Cedric faces SD, KC, DAL, DET, GB, MIN, and PHI in the first 7 weeks

Neither RB has a great rush schedule in the latter half of the season, but I'll take the guy who should get off to a good start.

I meant to reply to this quote.McGahee=PROVEN to give you a mediocre fantasy option at RB. I'm not looking to spend a second rounder on 1100 yards rushing and 6 TDs.His window for second chances is closed, in my book.

I'm on board the McGahee express this year. He says the knee is finally back. Watch out !

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjyaKvbJg8o
What else is he supposed to say after getting traded and signing a new deal....hey my knee will never be the same and I can't believe the Ravens gave me that much money to be a mediocre back.
McGahee isn't the only one saying it. Apparently one AFC pro personnel director agrees with him:" McGahee, 25, also says the knee finally started to feel fully healthy late last season, and scouts noticed. "If you'll watch some of those games, you'll see the cutting off both legs, the improved vision," says an AFC pro personnel director. "You saw a guy who was cutting, who showed burst, who showed vision. Before, he could see the cuts, but he couldn't make the cuts. Even though his runs after initial contact were pretty good, I think now you'll see what everybody thought the Bills were going to get."
