better longer term prospect-KClemens or T Edwards? (1 Viewer)

I like Clemens better. Hes had longer to learn his offense, a stronger arm than Pennington, and has a couple of very good recievers that could get behind secondaries. I see more growing pains and subsequent controversy for Edwards

I'd lean towards Edwards simply because he's significantly better than Clemens was as a rookie. Now maybe it's wrong to judge a QB based on his first season, but I'd rather have the guy who immediately looked very good over the guy who took a year to pick up the pro game. If Edwards is already this good, imagine how good he'll be with a year of professional experience.

That said, I think Clemens is a pretty interesting dynasty investment and we don't really know enough about either player right now to make a truly accurate assessment of his value.

I don't want to discount Edwards' game last week, but let's remember it was against the Jets....clearly one of the worst defenses in the league. I'm not sure it's fair to say Edwards looked better as a rookie than Clemens did because 1) we don't truly know how Clemens would have looked and 2) Edwards has only played one game..it's a bit early to jump the gun on him. Personally, I like Clemens better for the long term. The WR tandem of Coles and Cotchery is, IMO, significantly better than anything Buffalo has right now, and I expect Clemens and Cotchery to become a very productive QB-WR combo in a year or two when (if?) Kellen is playing full time and Cotchery becomes the clear number 1 receiver in the offense.

Edwards is going to be a very good NFL QB. It seems like he made the players around him better, something that the greats do. He showed tremendous poise and ability to go through some reads. I'd like to see him in a game where he is faced with a strong pass rush to see how he reacts.

i'm curious what made you decide clemens took a year to pick up the pro game? what if he had completed that 1 pass attempt? it seems like what you're interpreting as the rate at which each of these guys picked up the pro game is really the comparative quality of incumbent QBs. if clemens was on the same team as jp losman, it'd probably look like he was picking the game up pretty quickly too.

It's not that simple. I'm not basing my judgment on a handful of games, but rather on the buzz that I heard coming out of Jets camp. Everything I read said Clemens looked like a rookie last year and was a long way from being ready to start for an NFL team. Edwards, on the other hand, has pretty much been lights out since he was drafted. That includes practices, preseason, and the regular season.
