I wouldn't downgrade a player because his coach may retire in a few years. There's been no rumors of that so that shouldn't be a real consideration, at least it isn't to me. The line may take a bit of time to fix to get back to where they were. WR wise, they have a super talented Marshall but could use a good #2, Stokely is a good #3, and they have promising TE talent. Winning is a team thing and there's no QB in the history of college or the NFL that can will games all by himself. He's got the tools, intelligence and I think the intensity to win. Plus, I'm talking more about FF propects, not so much about NFL prospects and FF wise he finished 11th in his 1st year as a starter with 3500-20-14 with nearly a 64% completion rate.
Im with you. And I'll stay short term fantasy with you. Say, next 2 or 3 years. There are no public statements suggesting Shanahan is stepping down. But he's entering his 13th season in Denver, which by current NFL standards is an incredibly long tenure. History alone suggests he'll retire or move on soon. But I have not facts on that matter, so I wont dwell there. Cutler and Marshall have been good. But outside of Marshall, what else to they really have? Sheffler or Stokley? Yuck. Not gonna kill Sheffler. I realize he's a capable receiving TE. But as the #2 passing option for my fantasy QB? Not liking that. Stokley just doesnt do it for me. He's old and he's about due for another of those seasons where he plays 6 games. And the Marshall injury doesnt concern you? The guy's gonna miss some serious time healing up without putting in the work that all upper-tier players need. I dont expect anyone can just step out there with a month of prep and perform at the highest level. You take Marshall's '07 #s out of the equation, and Cutler's #s fall significantly. And I dont know where the production is coming from if not from him. Like I said, leaning on Stokley at this point as a #2 is a major risk, imo. I would think they'd be looking at a WR in the first 2 rounds of their draft. But working in young kids can take time. You can draft Dwayne Bowe or Chad Jackson with the same level of expectation and completely different results. Lots of uncertainty there. You never know 'til the guy suits up what you'll get. I like what Cutler has done his first couple of years from a fantasy perspective. But there's alot going on here to think about. Personally, Im probably not touching him this upcoming year. The Marshall injury situation alone is enough to tame my expectations. But I realize he's got too much talent to not consider him this year and for the next few. But in my opinion, he still has a ton to prove.
