Did you have a league that did this before?Did some people end up mad that some people could afford to outpay them for the top pick or did it never take off to begin with?I do not like the idea myself but the commish floated the idea out there and most others seem to want it.
Sure did. Some people simply wouldnt bid any money beyond the minimum. Other had cash to burn.We thought that was fine as it added more money to the pool, but those with money (or at leats those willing to spend it) kept winning out. Is most of your leagues about the same in terms of finacial situiation? (All college students or all are middle class folk) If so it could be fine.
I've played in a league like this for 10 plus years (for many years against Captain Hook), spending cheap can pay great dividends, so it really helps to even things out. I would think it may be a problem for a $100 entry fee though, the amounts just won't matter enough to some people. (The very first time I played fantasy football, you paid the money you bid on each player, so someone could have LT, SJ and PM etc. But in the era before the internet and even fantasy magazines you could draft a team that did just as well as the best players from the year before). Anyway, from a fairness point of view this is really the way to do a draft. LT cost significantly more than any other player so you get a smaller return on your investment, which is fairer. You get the 12th pick for a buck and buy this years Frank Gore you have a real shot, but your high risk is properly rewarded when you are right.
