Biden will propose a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants (1 Viewer)

Florida is an outlier because of cubans.

Otherwise the latino vote is 2/3rds democrat.
This is what I thought before I moved here.  Now I realize, this sort of thought is pretty similar to the "if he didn't have that big 50 yard run he'd only have X yards" argument.  Not compelling and not really reality in this state if we are to believe the data we'd been provided in 2018.....2020 I suspect will be similar to what we learned in 2018.  We'll see.

Cuban americans were the only latino group in florida trump won a majority with in 2020.

This analogy is perfect for why you shouldnt bring up florida in this discussion. In 2018 the hispanic vote was 69% democrat nationwide.

Good.  This is a moral issue.  It is immoral for us to close our borders to people who want a better life for themselves and their children.   If Jesus was alive today, he would absolutely be in favor of the US allowing more immigration as a moral issue.   My close friends who are true Christians are the strongest advocates I know on this topic.
I'm all for more LEGAL immigration.  I don't hate people and want to keep the country for myself. There should absolutely be a process for legal immigration.  I consider myself a christian and Republican.

It's not really "legal" if we don't have an effort to prevent illegal immigration at the border, though.

There are plenty of conservatives that agree with giving a path to citizenship for these folks despite the fact that they will more likely vote democrat. I imagine the reverse would also be true. I know for me, what party they vote for plays no factor in my thinking
Yea, but are you a politician?

You have to look no further than Florida to see that this blanket statement is incorrect.  "Latinos" or whatever term you want to use is not a monolithic group.  There are varying viewpoints and in my view, not realizing this is why Florida is constantly up for grabs.  It's not one size fits all.  Sheer numbers of voters is meaningless in this country with the gerrymandered districts and we'd be wise to remember that.
I think Cuban Americans are the only groups of Latinos to not vote majority blue.

I think other latino subgroups are trending GOP in FL as well. As i recall Trump had gains over Romney in these other groups and expanded those gains in 2020.

Might be a Trump effect though.

Like I said earlier, this proposal is dead in the water without improving border security measures...although DACA may get done.

Sen. Bob Menendez (D., N.J.), the bill’s Senate sponsor...that enacting the bill would be a “herculean task,” and could prove impossible without Republican cooperation.

Key Democrats say using reconciliation is an unlikely route.

The key that unlocks the door to doing more is the security parts of it, the feeling that the laws are in place and are being enforced,” Mr. Rubio said.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), one of the members of the “Gang of Eight” senators who wrote the 2013 comprehensive immigration bill, told reporters on Thursday the Senate should concentrate on a deal for Dreamers. “I think probably the space in a 50-50 Senate would be some kind of DACA deal,” he said.

And this time around, Biden's numbers weren't "up" in "latino" areas....they were down in most of them compared to Hillary.  They are not a monolith which was my only point....at least we're talking about Cubans as a separate group....there are others, especially those from South America.
