Ben Roethlisberger: Roethlisberger took some hits to his throwing arm in the Week 14 contest against the Patriots and he has had what the team is calling a "sore throwing shoulder" throughout the week. Originally Mike Tomlin told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he expected Roethlisberger to be limited some during midweek practice, but when he failed to practice both Wednesday and Thursday, red flags went up. The good news is that Roethlisberger returned to full practice Friday; the not-so-good news is that he did not look particularly sharp during the portion of practice open to the media, according to a report in the Florida Times-Union. The report goes on to say that the Steelers only ran plays of 15 yards or less, but that when Roethlisberger was throwing, he appeared to favor the right shoulder and throw with a semi-sidearm motion. The Steelers know what portion of the practice is open to the media. Was the limited performance a show, or is Roethlisberger really struggling? There is no real way to know, given that this was his only practice session of the week, but I doubt that Roethlisberger would go out of his way to make his arm look bad. Based on past performance and true grit, I expect Roethlisberger to try to give it a go Sunday. If he looks like he is struggling in warmups, the team can insert Charlie Batch. From a fantasy perspective, there is some risk in starting Roethlisberger this week because he will be a game-time decision, and even if he plays, there is no telling how his arm will hold up. On top of that he faces a tough Jaguars defense. All in all, this is not a good combination for a quarterback with a sore shoulder.
