Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

There is some level of karma at work tonight. Given Wisconsin's best start in ages (ever?), I think it's fitting Indiana ended their run. Wisconsin has stuck some very good Indiana teams with some tough losses in the last decade. I'm looking at you Brian Butch banking in a WTF 3 pointer in 2008!

Stanford Robinson is really improving.

Hate to say it but Hollowell not playing didn't seem to be a bad thing.

For the 2nd game in a row. I hope it's just motivational, and that it works. If he played as hard as Robinson has been, he'd be a beast.

I didn't realize that is the 2nd game he's missed. Is he hurt?

Yogi had a hell of a game. Kid could be special if he can stop getting benched.

Don't think so. Crean's comment after the Penn State game was "He needs to get his focus."

It appears he doesn't want to play within the system as the reason for his benching.

Not sure he cares for the rotation. I think he feels he's one of the top 2 on IU. All speculation, but we'll see how it plays out.

Michigan still has all their tough games to go, but they've had a nice start with a couple of quality road wins. Walton seems to be improving; Morgan/Horford a solid two-headed monster in the middle.

This "easy" period was crucial to getting them to figure out how to play together....hopefully they can continue to grow as a team....still a ways to go.

Ho-hum win for State tonight. Good minutes by some part-time role players that may come in handy down the stretch with the experience gained, as it sounds like AP will be sitting for as long as possible. Glad everyone came out healthy tonight and we move on...

UM up 13 in the 2nd half at Wisc. Wolverines thoroughly out playing them in every way right now.

ETA: ugh this has taken a turn

ETA: Stauskas is cold blooded

Time to watch MSU at Illini without Payne and Appling gets more banged up by the game.

This stretch however is allowing Kaminski, Gauna, Ellis and others to play more.

DId you ever think a Bo Ryan team would score 100, regardless of competition?
Never. I figured a Bo Ryan team would need to shoot about 95 percent to score 100 points.
Or having a 7' goober go 16/19, 6/6 from downtown and 5-6 from the line for 43 points.

:lmao: with 3 boards an 0 assists :lmao:
Every year. Without fail.
They will miss Berggren, Evans and especially Bruesewitz on the defensive end and a bit of that "toughness" intangible.

But give Pitino some time. I think he was a great hire and will get that team on the right track sooner than later
:goodposting:

Badgers had a good OOC schedule but no one adjusted to attack the middle on them. Leave it to the B1G season for that to be exposed.

They can still be a good team but Bo needs to figure it out on the defensive side.

Kind of crazy that both teams from the state of Michigan are undefeated in conference play despite missing a future NBA big man.

Hopefully MSU's will be healthy enough to play next Saturday.

Payne def. out against Indy, questionable for UM right now.
We'll see just how committed Izzo is to getting Payne to 100 percent health. I'd have a tough team leaving a 90% Payne on the bench for a game against Michigan with first place in the conference on the line.

From what Ive been reading, sounds like he could play tonight if they were desperate. I agree, Saturday is a big game. I think Payne is really itching to get back as well. I'd just hate for him to have a bad setback where he's out for another long stretch going into February. Gotta admit though, everyone has really picked it up both offensively and defensively since he's been out, esp, Kaminski and Costello.

Ugly win. I'll take it. Better have Payne back Saturday...
I thought they looked much better tonight than they have in several other recent games. Harris was a beast in the 2nd half. Seems like they've been sleep walking through most 1st halves all year.
They were totally out of synch that first half. Finally, Dawson started getting it together the 2nd half. Harris was a beast the second half, I agree. Appling looked like he was hurting the entire game gutted it out and was solid as always. I just think we'll really missing Payne's leadership on the floor right now. Hoping he gets close to 100% very very soon.

Gophers take down Wisconsin at home all while losing arguably their best scorer 30 seconds in. 2-2 over the last 4 games and all 4 games were against ranked opponents.

I am starting to believe in Pitino Power. Love the energy he brings to the team after too many lackluster years under Tubbys reign.

Minnesota Golden Gophers dominate #9 Wisconsin at home 81 - 68 despite losing leading scorer Andre Hollins to an ankle injury 30 seconds into the game. Shot 59% with like 50 points in the paint.

Career high 18 pts, 9 boards from C Mo Walker off the bench. PG DeAndre Mathieu with an awesome game too as the Gophers played their most complete game coming off a second half pounding at Iowa.

During Tubby's tenure this would've been a nail-biter win or they find a way to lose. Pitino inherited some nice pieces no doubt with upperclassmen guards and a continually improving C Eliason. Walker has improved with weight loss and confidence and the guards Pitino brought in, Mathieu and Malik Smith have been money. Playing an exciting brand of ball.

Lot's of panic out there, but I was under the impression this was a pretty deep team. I'm pretty confident Payne will now be on the floor for sure.
Not hearing any panic. Concern? yea. Short-term, missing Branden and AP for the MI game, that's 2/5th of your starting rotation and pretty much your entire inside presence, going to be very tough to win given how MI is playing right now, even at home. State is being very mum about AP's condition. I think he's out this weekend. Longer term for the team, Branden out just means Valentine, Costello and Kaminski see A LOT more time, esp. Valentine. We definitely have depth at forward.

Maybe this injury will correct Branden shooting motion and up his percentage. He's been very off this year. Seems to be a quick healer too, so maybe we get lucky and he's out 3-4 instead of 4-5+. Should be an interesting month. :scared:

I think Branden should just play and resurrect "The Club", Mo Pete 2.0.

If Payne has plantar fasciitis will he even play again this season? Seems especially tough for bigmen.

Sucks for the B10. Even though I root for MN I enjoy seeing teams at full-strength, even moreso now that more kids are leaving early for the NBA and weakening CB.
