Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power

I don't know much (or even understand) all of these advanced stats, but I read that Robert Carter has the #1 PER in the Big Ten.

So, how many NCAAT bids for the conference?

Iowa, MD, MSU, Purdue, Indiana, Michigan? Maybe Wisconsin if they get hot to close the season?
A week ago, I thought Michigan was a guaranty. Now? I don't know. They are going to need a few wins down the stretch. And who knows what the hell LeVert is going to do. 6 weeks with a damn sprained ankle.
To expand on this a little - either LeVert needs to toughen up or we need to figure out what the hell is going on with the ####### Michigan medical staff.
Read this AM that it's his call now. He's been cleared. Is that correct?

Good game. We had too many missed shots at the end. Hammonds was huge.
Valentine... as good as he's been this year... still shows signs of his old self from past seasons where he makes bad/selfish decisions. He lost that OT IMO

That last call on him coulda gone either way. Im not complaining. They had lots of changes to put them away with missed free throws and missed inside bunny shots that didn't fall. He also had two last second shots in regulation and OT that didn't fall, which seemed to be par for the course last night for them, lid on the bucket for most of the game. It didn't surprise me that they came back how they did, they've done it before. However, they lacked the dagger last night. Having all 3 of our bigs in foul trouble late in the game was a killer. Especially because AJ was playing so well.

On a positive, I really like what we got out of Goins, McQuaid and Ellis. The bench is continuing to look great as we move toward the March Tourney run. Really could use Tum Tum sooner rather than later, but that is what it is.

With MSU's loss, its definitely a 3 team race for the Big Ten title. If Iowa wins at Indiana tomorrow (I kind of doubt they will, but you never know), looks like it will be a 2 team race.

Pretty good sports year for the Hawkeyes.

Which 2 teams?

MD still has to play @IU, Michigan, at Purdue, Wisconsin.

Iowa has one loss, MD & IU have 2, and Mich/Purdue/UW have 4. I haven't looked at the remaining schedules for any of those guys yet, but it wouldn't shock me to see MD with at least 4 losses when all' said & done.

MD should beat Michigan and Wisconsin. The two away games will be tough, but if they want a 1 or 2 seed in the tourney, they have to win these kind of games.

Sure. I was just saying that the 4-loss teams aren't out of the B1G race yet.

And I'm not counting MD as a given against any of the teams left. Other than the OSU game in College Park, they haven't beaten up on a major since Hector was a pup. Most of their games are close, meaning they could lose any of them. Their record in two-possession games the last two years is just ridiculous.

One or Two. Iowa will win the conference or be tired with Maryland.

2 losses, both to Indy

ETA: No offense to our Iowa friends here, but I just don't see them going far in the Tourney tis year, even though they have had a terrific regular B1G season. I just don't think they are built for a demanding 6 game path to the FF, even given their presumptive top 5 seed. I think MD looks more the part.

I still keep waiting for this team to take it to the next level. Maybe they don't have another level to go to? What's the deal with the guy who was so impressive against Bowie? Why does he never play? Apparently he can handle the ball and god knows this team could use another competent guard in the worst way.

You must've missed the Indiana and MSU games this week.

Who? Brantley? Conway & I have been screaming from the rooftops here about why he isn't getting any time. Melo is gonna run out of gas playing 38 minutes a game just like he did last year.

My only guess is that he sucks in practice and Turgeon's like "oh HELL no, you don't practice hard you don't play"

I believe Turgeon and the staff think he doesn't play B1G level defense. While Ram doesn't play B1G level offense, Turgeon favors defense over offense.

I wonder... if Ceko could become serviceable, could they play him with Stone and Carter at the 3? That would be another way to give Layman and the backcourt some time off. Possible to play a lineup of Stone, Ceko, Carter, Nickens/Layman, and Sulaimon?

Carter can play like a 3 on offense (& often does), but I don't know that he can on defense. Maybe Turgeon is worried about him getting into even more foul trouble than he sometimes does if he's chasing smaller dudes? Maybe go to zone then?

Even so, having Cek give Maryland good minutes would help so much.

If the Hawkeyes aren't playing up to their best I could see up to 3 losses there.

Today will be their first test, against Indiana at Indiana, I'm nervous about this one.

After that mess @PSU, I think most IU fans are nervous, too.

I don't know if Indiana will lose by 18 or win by 10+, but it sure as hell will be interesting to see which version of Indiana shows up.

It was fun while it lasted. Iowa will win going away, too many mismatches out there.
Iowa is REALLY good. I know Bronco doesn't think they can make a run in the tournament, but I disagree. They are really good.
I haven't seen them play all year. They look good, really balanced. This little Gessell ####er always hits every shot against the Hoosiers IIRC.

No great teams this year so why not?

HUGE win for Michigan over Purdue. They needed that one bad.
Yes we did. Still have 5 games, and 4 are going to be tough (yes, OSU isn't quite as good this year, but it's AT OSU and it's a hated rival). I could easily see us dropping 2 or 3 out of the 5, maybe worse. We should make the

tourney, but won't be a high seed at all. Need everyone to get healthy!
