Best player in the country?Trey Burke is really, really good.27 points last night on 12-16 shooting. 8 assists. 5 rebounds. No turnovers.
Is he always this passive with his shot? He's beaten his guy MANY times tonight just to pass it out for a 3 or jump shot of some sort. It will be a lot of fun to watch him and Burke go at it this year.I love Aaron Craft, but he's not the best PG on this team.
He doesn't have much of a shot. I'll be patient and "hope" that the problem is the coaches (Chris Jent) are working on getting rid of the hitch, but Craft's shot sucked with the hitch and has sucked through this "transition."I've seen multiple guys come through Matta's system and improve their shot by leaps and bounds, but not with a hitch. I'm not saying it can't happen, but based on my experience playing b-ball and from what I've seen as a fan, it's almost impossible to get rid of a hitch. Craft has a role. He's a great defender who is very good at running the half-court, but this team is not a half-court, pound it down into post team. Sullinger is playing for Boston.ETA: My guess is that you see Burke matching up with Scott a bit more than you think. Is he always this passive with his shot? I always preferred Augustus Cornelius "Gus" Johnson, Jr.Still can't believe the Big 10 Network can't find anyone better than Jimmy Jackson to announce the games.
ROCK CHALK! JAYHAWK!Kanas at Ohio State @ 4 today![]()
Agree. Shooting 30% won't win you many games.Ohio State looks absolutely fantastic for stretches but their offense just doesn't seem to have the juice to be consistent enough in the biggest games so far.
Spanking Michigan St by 13, even at home, is a nice way to start the Big10 season. Go Gophers.Minnesota looking very tough at home.
At least football is over.
nice win last night. if they played like that all season they would be about 11-2 right now.Yep...nice to see.At least football is over.nice win last night. if they played like that all season they would be about 11-2 right now.
Yea. They are pretty good.Trey Burke is a POY candidate.Wow, UM just smashed NW in Evanston. Last year UM didn't even put up 50 points in Evanston. They had 51 at half. Not too many teams will be able to keep up with their scoring power. 96 points in 40 minutes is explosive.
Both their games against NW went to OT last year. There are a ton of weapons on this team and with Stauskas shooting the 3 like he is, they'll be a tough out should things continue as they are.Wow, UM just smashed NW in Evanston. And a pretty decent bench, Mcgary is improving. He isn't a big scoring threat, but he is getting boards and impacting shots in the paint. Spike Albrecht is an upgrade at backup PG. Spike is efficiently running the offense. Really, this team is going 9 guys deep.Lots of weapons on this team ...no weak spots in the starting five. Both their games against NW went to OT last year. These guys are all getting quality time too. They made mention of Michigan's fouling situation during the game. All these guys are playing out of luxury, not necessity (because of foul trouble). McGary is improving. He no longer looks completely lost on the court. I love the big dude's hustle! He still has his moments and I think his scoring will come. It'll just take some time. And a pretty decent bench, Mcgary is improving. He isn't a big scoring threat, but he is getting boards and impacting shots in the paint. The reason I think, which many think is/was crazy, that this Michigan team is perhaps their best team ever is this is the first time they were a well coached team. They might not have a player on the caliber of a Glen Rice or Chris Webber, but they run a great offense and have a ton of talent. Those years they rode the coat tails of a mega-talented player with a very good supporting cast, but they were fairly undeciplined. The level of coaching in the Big 10 is phenomenal, and it was pretty clear 3 to 4 years ago that the Big 10 was going to become the dominant conference. Hell, the Illini are even a well coached team now. Really good team basketball in the Big 10.And a pretty decent bench, Mcgary is improving. Just another typical B1G officiated gameThese calls are bull####.

I didn't watch but looking at box score total PF's called were pretty even for both teams. Purdue shot like crap especially from line and 3's.Just another typical B1G officiated gameThese calls are bull####.![]()
There were a couple really bad calls that went against Purdue that turned the momentum a little. The "accidental elbow = technical" rule really sucks. Even Izzo wasn't happy about that call since he got screwed by it earlier in the year. That said, I assume/hope MSU was going to pull away at some point anyway.I didn't watch but looking at box score total PF's called were pretty even for both teams. Yup, it's going to be brutal for all B10 teams this year. Indiana has 9 left as well 4 of those in the last 2 1/2 weeks of the season. Should be similar to Big East a few years back when they sent a ton of teams to the tourney. These guys will beat each other up but when they lose to another ranked team it won't hurt their ranking too much. How good is B10 basketball? UM has 9 games left against ranked opponents. Duke and Zona have a combined 2. I posted that in another thread, but it should be noted for everyone here.
ya, just a 4 point swing plus possession which turned into the most ridiculous post-rebound "charge" call on Hammons which was his 3rd foul. He went to the bench, M$U scored, and it wasn't close after that. There were a couple really bad calls that went against Purdue that turned the momentum a little. The back to back calls on Johnson and Hammonds completely changed the game. Agreed, but it was just a momentum changer and I think it affected the Boilers because of their youth. This is going to be a fun year IMO, no expectations and they will learn by taking their hard knocks. I think they'll pull off a few upsets this year, but they will struggle on the road.Regardless of calls good teams much less a mediocre Purdue team are going to win at MSU shooting less than 50% from line and 30% from 3.
Agree with all that. After the start of their season you gotta feel great with the Illinois win. From what I read incoming class is great, Painter is a great coach. IU / Purdue rivalry is relevant again - love it.Agreed, but it was just a momentum changer and I think it affected the Boilers because of their youth. Not the first time B1G refs thought they were bigger than the game being played and won't be the last. We've been on the opposite side of those types of calls many times as well. The back to back calls on Johnson and Hammonds completely changed the game. How does Oladipo compare to Craft in terms of man defense? People hyped Craft up, but Burke did ok against him as a freshman. Craft is supposed to be the best defender.I'm really looking forward to Indiana and Michigan playing twice this year. Both games should be excellent and Oladipo guarding Burke will be a lot of fun to watch.
McGary and GR3 are really playing well today. McGary looked clumsy and lost the first few weeks of the year, now he is running the fast break, blocking dunks, dunking on guys and making midrange jumpers. This guy can really play.Michigan can turn it on quickly. Nice finish to the first half. The Indiana-Michigan games should be epic.
You can make a case for either of these guys. Oladipo was a great defensive player last year, but was considered somewhat one-dimensional. He has elevated his game so much this year he has to be considered one of the top players in the country. How does Oladipo compare to Craft in terms of man defense? Victor Oladipo
ESPN: (31) Draft Express: (28) NBADraft.net: (34)
· Analysis: Oladipo has been called IU’s best player so far this season and that’s a fair analysis given how he’s impacted the game on both ends of the floor. Offensively, he’s continued to relentlessly attack the rim and convert, but he’s also mixed in a more reliable perimeter shot that makes him more attractive to the next level. Defensively, Oladipo is building a list of top scorers on the opposition that he’s been able to take out of games. Given how much he’s improved in his 30 months in Bloomington, there’s no reason to believe Oladipo shouldn’t continue to get better for the foreseeable future.
· Expert opinion: “Love him. One of my favorite players in the country. He’s gonna be a first round pick in this year’s draft. If he can convince scouts that his 45% shooting from beyond the arc isn’t a fluke — lottery isn’t out of the question.” – ESPN.com’s Chad Ford
