Yeah, good read Frost. I didn't touch on your question as to whom I'd like to see replace Tubby, but there are a handful out there and you touched on a couple in Miles and Smart. Agree that Miles isn't going anywhere for a few years, it wouldn't do him any good and Nebraska is dumping a ton of money into trying to build that hoops program up. Believe me, Miles will do it too. He's exactly the type of coach that Minnesota needs. One that's proven he can turn programs around, and will stick around for 4-5 years to do it. As for Smart, would he even consider a job like the Gophers? Seems like a dumb question, but I'd imagine that he'd have some better options than Minnesota. Maybe I have too high of expectations, and Tubby-like success (middle of the Big 10 finishes, NIT runs or first round NCAA exits) are all that can be expected. That's very possible, but I find it hard to believe that the Gophers can't be better than they've been for the past decade.

Miles would be a great hire, but again, he's not going anywhere any time soon especially with Nebraska's new facilities. Smart would be the home run hire, but he's turned down better opportunities and with VCU still on the rise and having just moved up to the A-10 I don't see him leaving, even with the Norwood Teague factor.Gregg Marshall is the guy I would look at - great success at both Winthrop and Wichita. Another possibility, and I just now thought of him so I haven't really thought this through yet, could be Larry Eustachy.

I have a feeling the career path of Dan Monson is going to stick in the minds of top mid-major coaches when looking at Minnesota. Which isn't really fair, because most mid-majors don't do what Gonzaga has done, and not every coach who makes a similar move fails.

Big difference between what's possible and what's expected. Minnesota's doing about what I would expect under Tubby, probably even a little better this year. Sure, somewhere out there is the perfect coach for the Gophers who would lead them to new heights. But for every coach like that, there's a lot more Dan Monsons. And where Tubby has Minnesota right now, from an outsider's perspective, isn't all that bad.

Wait just one minute. I'll be DAMNED if I'm going to sit here and let you insult the Vanderbilt Commodores. They had a good team last year, with 3 NBA players. And its a damn fine university to boot.

Yeah, it's crowded at the top right now. The best opportunity for some of the middling schools to build up was while Michigan and Indiana were down, and Michigan State and Wisconsin took full advantage. That will be harder to do with the league as strong as it is now.

:goodposting: These are 18-22 year old kids. There are so many factors in the way they play on any given night. Judging a team on one bad loss is ridiculous.

This really has nothing to do with Vandy other than to compare talent levels. Everything you say about Vandy is true, and that should tell us how good UK was. They just weren't great. ;)
 
Indiana bought into their own hype, the other team was just supposed to give up.This better light a ####### fire.

Was unable to catch the Illini/Hoosier game tonight. Came in here to see the bad news about the Illini tonight as it's been really depressing watching them lately.And they won! Unbelievable.

Odd game. It never seemed that illini was a threat to win the game, but a few three-pointers and a few mistakes by IU, and there it was.

Yeah, I had it on the radio and had to shut it off around 8:30. I think IU had just gone up 14 mid-2nd half. Didn't get to check back in until it was over.
 
Illinois kept their hopes alive with that win for a tourney bid. Despite their awful Big Ten record of 3-7, they do have a very impressive list of wins against Gonzaga, Ohio State, Indiana and Butler. They have five near must win games against Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Penn State and Nebraska. If they can get to 8-10 in the Big Ten, they will get a bid.

The NCAA is just not enforcing it and allowing Adidas to do it repeatedly.

Predictable loss Bobby. All keyed up for a big home game against the Wolvs and then totally letdown at Illinois, similar to the letdown vs Wisconsin after an excellent win against Minnesota in early January. Problem for your boys now is they've got to travel to ohio and visit a team that is stinging from a big loss to their bitter rival. Quick turn game too, playing Sunday at 1.GL :bye:

something lost in all the amazement of the last second shot last night...but what about the free throws to tie it? the guy freakin banked in the first one! one of the ugliest looking made free throws i ever saw. then he calmly knocks the bottom out of the second one. on another note, as a UK fan i've found it very entertaining hearing some IU fans complain about the students rushing the court. apparently that kind of behavior is "dangerous" this year...

Announcer sounds like an idiot. It looked like Bruesewitz tried to foul with a reach in and they forced a 25 foot 3 over a 6'6 guy. Not like they gave up a lay up. Crazy way to end it. I knew this game to get into the 60's.

 
I have little problem with the lack of fouling. Like I said, it looked like Bruesewitz reached in before the shot but they didn't call it. But in a tie game, they forced a 25' 3 pointer. That is a bad shot with a tie game. And we've already seen what can happen on inbounds plays. And UM looked hesitant to foul for fear it would be in the act of shooting. Want to talk about dumbest player in college basketball. How about leaving people wide open under your hoop with .9 seconds left. Or watch the end of the Dayton/Temple game earlier to watch more stupidity on 3 different plays than that play.

 
Going back to what I said earlier this week, mcgary x factor. Those last two possessions, didn't come through, so, tie game.
