Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (3 Viewers)

Whose is overrating him?  First part of the season, the many, and perhaps a majority, of IU fans were hoping he would be gone by the end of the season.  He put this team back together and probably even over accomplished with it, so he earned trust.  Now if this can only translate into a sweet 16 appearance and Crean can actually show some bench coaching in the tourney.
A lot of people including members of the national media consider him a respectable coach. Me I think he's generally been a terrible X's & O's coach who can recruit very well.  That's why I used overrated since I think he's terrible.  Anyway he did a great job this year so maybe he's figured some things out...who knows.

Sure, it was Illinois at home, but that was better.  Nickens and Trimble looked good.  Layman was good.  Carter and Dodd played mostly well.  Sulaimon and Stone were OK.  Ram hit a deep three at the end!  Still, with a road game at Indiana and the B1G tourney, I'd think the Terps could end up anywhere from a 2 seed (maybe even a 1 if things break right) if they run the table to a 4 seed (maybe even a 5 if things break wrong) if they drop the next two.

Looking like six definite bids, maybe seven if Michigan can win two more.  Maybe even eight if both Michigan and Ohio St. win 2-3 more games.

Pretty much agree with this. In the past he seemed to be terrible at making changes in game, never able to change up strategy. Watching his teams go against a good zone was painful. Not getting past sweet 16 with the teams he's had is pretty bad.

He has done a good job this season. They have overcome injuries, played some D, and showed great composure, got to give him credit. He's also found some great lesser recruited talent and picked up good transfers - he's at Indiana so recruiting should be a given though.

Hopefully they can get at least a couple wins in the tourney this year.

Creen is the conference coach of the year and I love what Gard's done with my Badgers.

Impressive Senior Day win against the Bucks.  Hope Josh Jackson was impressed seeing it in person.  He would certainly help next season.

GO GREEN

Congrats Scarlett Knights

Rutgers avoids the shutout and gets their first B1G season win over Minnesota.

Pitino should just go ahead and resign after this game

I tried fishing for scenarios based on the outcome of today's IU/MD contest, but came up empty. Are both locked into a double-bye?

I would think MD would have to win to guarentee it.  But it depends on the tie-breaker.  Worst case, they could end up in a three-way tie for the 4th spot, so only one of those teams would have a double bye.  No idea who has it.  Of course IU is a lock at the one seed.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the tiebreakers work. Someone told me yesterday Maryland already had a double bye but she's dumber than I am, which is why I'm asking here.

According to Testudo Times, a win for the Terps probably gets them the 3, while a loss probably gets them the 4.  They didn't really qualify the "probably" part.

Thanks, guys.

I know I appear to be doom-and-gloom when I talk about the Terps, but that's only because I watch them more than any other team and their faults stand out more. I honestly think they are really, really good and can beat anyone. The lack of efficient rebounding worries me for a team with the size & hops they have, though.

Anyway, good luck IU backers. I hope it's a good game today.

This is embarrassing.  Again.  This just isn't a good team.  Defensive rebounding is still terrible.  The offense goes stagnant for long stretches.  Trimble has lost the ability to drive.  Honestly, Yogi Ferrell is everything Trimble was supposed to be.

I've been a Turgeon supporter all along, but I'm starting to waver.  This team has an absolute ton of talent, yet somehow they're getting worse as the season goes along.  12-6 in conference is downright embarrassing for this team.  I love that he recruits big time players, but they should be winning more games.  If Gary had this kind of talent, they would be 29-3.

Hoosiers undefeated at home this season and just playing great. OG and Morgan have been such great finds this year. Morgan's shoulder is messed up not looking good for him.

Yogi finishes a great, great career. On the list with the all time players there.

Maryland looking not so good.

Onto the Big10 tournament.

Their fall off has really surprised me.  Perhaps the B1G tourney is where they shake off the funk.

Congrats to the Hoosiers on a great conference season.  I haven't followed them all year, but they seemed to get a lot better after Blackmon went out.  Coincidence?  Not really true to begin with?  One of those cases of addition by subtraction?  Something else entirely?

Very true. Everyone says the defense got infinitely better.

From my viewing since he went down the bench guys stepped up big time. Crean is a maniac and constantly switches his lineups used to drive me crazy, the past month or so it has just worked. Maybe Blackmon somehow messed up his rotations. Who knows.

They also aren't getting to the line much which, along with bad rebounding, tells me they're not being aggressive.

Looks like they've got Wisconsin and MSU on their side of the bracket for the B1GT

Definitely true, but how much lies in coincidence vs direct relation is hard to pin down.

The cohesion as a team on defense has increased tenfold without Blackmon on the floor.  There was some speculation early on that Yogi and Blackmon never really got on the same page; others speculated even further that they didn't like each other at all.  Yogi going on to play the best ball of his career to date once Blackmon was out of the picture didn't dispel those rumors.

Purdue and Maryland get a break by having a lower seed.  MSU and IU should still win also, but they will at least could be challenged.

Close is not going to be good enough for Michigan.  It is win or die for Michigan.  IU is fighting for a 3 seed or maybe a 2 seed if they win out.  A loss could drop IU to a 4.

IU pulling away....looks like NIT for Michigan unless they can sink some 3's.  At least they will have a chance there.  IU could have a good tourney if they get the right draw.  Pretty much earned at least a 3 seed.

They just closed on an 8-1 run over the last 90 seconds, didn't they?  This tournament is apparently top-25 kryptonite.

damnit now everyone else knows that Indiana is frauds, this sucks.  Still hope they get a 3 seed, they wont make it past the first weekend

Wow. HUGE.

I hope that's enough to get Michigan in. Somehow Lunardi still has Vanderbilt and St. Marys in over Michigan.

That should put Michigan in at about a 10 seed, but several rankings don't like Michigan.  They really should slide in even if they get beat soundly by Purdue.

The Terps shot as well as I've ever seen a team shoot, except maybe for Villanova over Georgetown.  Layman was absolutely bonkers.

The flip side, however, is that in a game in which the Terps set the all time B1G tourney records for points scored and shot better than 60%, they allowed a mediocre Nebraska team to stay within 11 points.  The defense was not good and I thought the defensive rebounding was weak again.  If those don't improve, I imagine Sparty will bring the Terps back down to earth in a hurry.
