Biggest Surprises and Disappointments 2012 (1 Viewer)

AL- surprise has to be Oakland winning the West, and the biggest disappointment by far has to be LA Angels missing the playoffs with all of their offseason moves. Boston could be considered a disappointment but they are so dysfunctional and adding Bobby V to the mix only made it worse.

NL - Washington winning the East was a surprise to me and maybe it shouldn't have been because they are really, really good. Disappointment? Milwaukee really fell apart this year as I thought it would be them and Cincy battling for the Central. Dodgers spent an awful lot of money to not make the playoffs...but they started in a hole McCourt dug for them. Philly fire sale was a surprise as well.

I'm a homer, but doesn't it have to be the Orioles?

Before the season began if you knew the Orioles would come off a 93-loss 2011 (their 14th straight losing year) to finish 2012 with four-fifths of their Opening Day rotation in the bullpen/on the DL, and Markakis and Brian Roberts combining to play for only 110 games, would you have really thought they'd win 93 games and take the AL East title fight to the final day of the season?

I had no higher expectations for the A's than the O's, and the A's actually won their division so that's a little more impressive IMO.

I was surprised how the Tigers dominated their division being the first American League team to clinch their title. :banned:

Valid point with the O's. I only selected the A's because they won the division - but going into this season people thought it would be NYY, BOS and possibly TOR in the AL East. Baltimore did shock the world.

Surprise: The strong showing by the White Sox.
This no where near the surprise of the O's or A's. The White Sox had the pieces to win 85 or so games with some comeback/healthy seasons from their vets. The Sox season wasn't expected but the A's and O's had no chance at .500 in nearly everyone's eyes.

Tulo disappointed. Roy Haladay disappointed me. Fernando Rodney suprised me.
Tulo was no fault of his own - he is still one of my favorite players. Adam LaRoche surprised me in a good way - I agree with you on Halladay and would even throw in Cliff Lee on surprises in a bad way.
