Biker spit on my car today (1 Viewer)

I was driving into work this morning.  And I am in the right lane.  To the right of the road there is a bike/jogger lane which is actually a sidewalk (raised and everything) that allows bikers to ride on it for about a half mile section.  I'm driving and go to the right to avoid a pothole and a guy riding his bike spits on my car.  I assume he thought I was trying to scare him or something.  But I was never even close to him (probably 4-5 feet) and would have to jump the curb to actually hit the guy.  Is this really the world we're living in?  Has anyone else been on either side of a spitting like this?

It's possible that's what he was doing.  But he reared back his head to spit.  Maybe just to keep it off of himself.  But I figured since the timing was close to the pothole he might have thought I was trying to mess with a biker.  Either way it's an immature action.

was he riding on the street- so close enough to where you veered to be freaked out? or up on the bikepath?

if the latter- that's quite a spit.

He was up on the bikepath and just barely got the edge of my windshield.  I assume the fact that he was a couple inches higher helped with his distance.

I can't remember if he was in biker uniform, but I think he was.

For him to react and then hit you with his spit, he would have to be going faster than you? I am guessing you just caught him spitting at the wrong time.

My car is dirty and quite old so maybe he was trying to clean.  He was going opposite direction of me so it was pretty quick action.  I was on the right side of road.  And bike lane is also on the right side, it's just a wide sidewalk that you're allowed to ride on (most sidewalks you aren't allowed to ride a bike on) because it's a connector for a bike trail.  I run on the trail sometimes it's pretty and goes by the water excluding the sidewalk portion.

The spit could have only come from the back and to the left.

Run your windshield washer and forget about it.
The post was more about the curiosity.  Trying to figure out the psychology about why someone would do that.  Unfortunately the spit hit outside of windshield wiper's range.  On the very far edge of the window.  Doesn't bother me, I'll fix it next time I fill up.

According to your story Niles, you pass the biker and then you say your car was struck on the right windshield. The spit then proceeds to ricochet off your car
striking the car in front of you between the third and forth letters of its license plate. The spit then came off the plate, turned and hit Newman in the right wrist causing him to drop his baseball cap. The spit then splashed off the wrist, pauses - in mid air mind you - makes a left turn and lands on Newman's left thigh. That is one magic looggie.

I am saying that the spit could not have come from the biker to the right... that there had to have been a second spitter behind the telephone pole by the gravelly road. If the spitter was to the right of you as you claimed that would have caused your car to pitch to the left. Back, and to the left.

if he was riding towards you, saw you veer towards him and somehow figured you were either trying to spook him or hit him, a little impressive that he then had time to load up enough spit and fire.

but the whole spitting thing (in general) eludes me.

Cyclists suck. They routinely ride through red lights and stop signs, they block traffic with their slow peddling and they get pissy when motorists are too close to them.

A lot of bikers in big cities have such a sense of entitlement. I hate them.
Absofreakinglutely! I can not stand cyclists in cities. They almost uniformly have an attitude that it is perfectly acceptable for them to break every road rule in the book and get pissed at you for almost causing you to hit them even though you have followed every road rule in the book and been a cautious driver.

Cyclists in the burbs are completely ok with me though I would wish they wouldn't bunch up and block the road as if there are not cars wanting to pass them but that is a minor thing that usually isn't a problem to get around.

But big city cyclists?! Can't stand those jerk faces.

you probably deserved it

You should have asked if he did it on purpose. If he said yes, then you should have picked your nose and flicked a booger at him.
