Bill Parcells Press Conference 8/16 (1 Viewer)

As far as the comments from Bill i.e.."I don't know, I haven't talked to T.O." Guys, Bill has said since day one he's not going to give the media any fire power as it pertains to T.O. Bill knows what's going one, he's talking to T.O, he's just not saying anything. Do we really think he doesn't know................come on. He knows if he says something, it'll be quickly taken out of context and then we'll have ourselves a circus.

Therefore, I repeat, Bill is not going to give the media the chance or the oppurtunity to take him out of context, period.
So Bill saying "I don't know, I haven't talked to T.O." gives the media less then if he said "TO will continue to rehab his leg and he seems to be coming along".What does it mean when the owner says "TO has to learn how to practice at 75-80%" or when Bill says "we need to see him in here soon"? Just curious...because I'd really hate to see Bill, Jerry, and Owens turn this into a circus.
Did Bill say this? Or Jerry? This is about Bill not Jerry. I said Bill is not going to give the media any fire power. One thing your not putting in your quotes are the actual questions asked. Some questions i.e. open end, he's clearly staying away from, now closed end, he some he does..........some he don't.The media has already started with the, why does Glenn have to practice with the sores on his feet and Elderado doesn't. Take it for what you will, I'm just stating what I've heard Bill say nothing more nothing less.
That's cool. You've apparently heard Bill say he knows what's going on and he's not going to give the media any firepower. Funny cuz all I keep seeing on ESPN is Bill getting frustrated and saying he hasn't spoken to Owens.Eh, just having fun with ya. Bottom line is Owens is a self-made media circus and it looks like Cowboys fans are learning first hand all baggage that comes with him. If Bill's getting frustrated now just think, he's got 20+ more weeks to deal with it.
We (fans) already knew about the baggage, I believe all the plastic on Jerry's face has penatraited his brain cells and no one has told him about the baggage. If I had to some this up............it's Media vs. Bill (hince the frustration from Bill) while wanting it to be Elderado vs. Bill/Plastic Man (Jerry). And the Media is not going to let up :wall: , they've began to nitpick at everything (locally) and ESPN seems to jump the gun on everytime the wind blows. I guess the Barry Bonds issue has officially died.

T.O. practices, proving Parcells is still in total control

Despite having consistently complained of hamstring pain, Terrell Owens was rumored to have run a 4.48 40-yard dash on Tuesday.

AP

If you're wondering why Terrell Owens chose Wednesday to make his sudden return to the practice field after having skipped the 14 previous sessions, the answer is rather simple: The Dallas Cowboys' mercurial receiver apparently decided he'd rather deal with a twinge in his left hamstring than with his sore head coach.

SI.com has learned that the previous afternoon, during the team's training-camp practice in Oxnard, Calif., Cowboys coach Bill Parcells approached trainer Jim Maurer and pointedly said, "Look, you tell Terrell that tomorrow I want him out here for practice. Tomorrow's the day. I don't care. Tomorrow's the day."

Apparently, Owens got the message, rejoining his teammates on the field Wednesday afternoon for the first time since Aug. 2. And, equally important, Parcells sent a message to his players that he remains firmly in charge of his team.

"Before T.O. got back out there, a lot of people were starting to second-guess Bill," one Cowboys player says. "For the first time ever, he'd shown a little weakness, like he might not be totally in control, and like he didn't know how to handle this situation. Because, let's face it, it's been a total spectacle so far."

Don't think that the "Tour de Terrell" stunt Owens pulled last week -- wearing the Discovery Channel pro cycling team's silver and blue jersey and a racing helmet while riding his stationary bike on the sideline during practice -- didn't irk Parcells, who reacted disgustedly. "As soon as he saw T.O. in the jersey, and saw all the TV cameras heading over, Parcells got up and walked to the other end of the field," says the same Cowboys player. "It's like he was saying, 'There's no way you're gonna get a shot of me in the same frame as that crap.'"

Dallas players are well aware that owner Jerry Jones was a driving force behind the courtship of Owens, who replaced reasonably popular wideout Keyshawn Johnson following the team's near-playoff 2005 campaign. They also know that Parcells absolutely loathes it when a player misses practice with a vague ailment -- and it was natural to question just how injured Owens was. Despite having consistently complained of hamstring pain, the wideout was rumored to have run a 4.48 40-yard dash on Tuesday. An MRI exam on Aug. 5, three days after he said he first injured the hamstring, reportedly came up clear.

If the surest way to rile Andy Reid, Owens' former coach in Philadelphia, was to undermine his authority and publicly embarrass his starting quarterback, the quickest way into Parcells' doghouse surely is to do exactly what Owens had been doing for the better part of two weeks.

Remember the brouhaha that occurred a decade ago when Parcells, then the Patriots' coach, referred to wideout Terry Glenn as "she"? The infamous jab came because Glenn -- now, incidentally, Dallas's other starting wideout -- had missed a series of practices with a hamstring injury.

From the other Cowboys' perspective, it was hard not to imagine that the coach had developed similar feelings about Owens. But until Parcells' ultimatum to Maurer, they weren't sure if the Tuna had the juice or gumption to take on Jones' prized free-agent signee.

"We all just sat and wondered, 'Who's gonna win this battle?'" says the Cowboys player. "As a player, you can't help but get distracted when something like that is going on. The guy comes out last every single practice, has somebody carrying his helmet and is always putting on his uniform at the last minute, and then he's out there riding the bike and drawing attention to himself. Even if he's not trying to be a deterrent -- and he clearly is -- it's obvious that the coach isn't happy.

"The bottom line is, he appeared to be healthy and wasn't practicing. So we'd sit and wonder, Who's gonna win? How's it gonna go down?'"

Give this round to the Tuna -- and stay tuned.
LinkFascinating that Bill had the trainer tell him rather than do it himself. Equally fascinating was that TO was saying in his field-side press conference yesterday that he was the one to decide that he could return to the field, and that after praying he found that he could.

Anyone who thinks this is a non-story is kidding themselves about who they're dealing with in TO and in Parcells.

Owens seems to love and to seek the spotlight more every year. Gosh, what a good fit for the Cowboys. Anyone else here think this is the last incident this year? Anyone else think this is the last incident this preseason? tick....tick....tick....tick............

It reads like a soap opera, which is exactly what Joe Public wants to read/hear/see. When these media tools are ready to report some real news, like T.O. being healthy enough to play, let me know.

Its so funny reading through this thread. All of the Redskin and Eagles fans are just praying for a TO meltdown. I can see the nervousness in your post. Your hoping that your team doesnt have to face TO. Dallas fans knew what to expect when TO was signed. Everything TO did was going to be scruntinized but to counter this is Parcells a no nonsense coach who has seen it all before. Your kidding yourselves if you think Parcells does not know how to deal with TO. As a Dallas fan I am not the least bit worried about the media sensationalizing TO. TO is NOT a cancer in Dallas. TO is one of the most dominate recievers in the game and has a chip on his shoulder the NFC East had better be ready.......

Come on you can do better than that taking stats from 2 years ago when TO played on a different team and for the record the Redskins lost both of those games

They're the last two times they played vs. TO, guy. And BTW, that was a team that went to the Super Bowl. My only point is that TO doesn't bring anything to the Cowboys that the 'Skins think they're unable to handle.

Funny. A reporter asked Bill about the article today, and Bill basically called the SI guy a liar and the reporter foolish for believing the story.

I know TO has baggage but its seems silly to me that Steve Smith suffured the same injury and missed the same amount of time without anyone trying to say it was a power struggle between him and management. :lmao:

Questions:1) What else is Bill going to say? 2) Does it carry any weight with you at all that Michael Silver a) is not a reporter known for grudges and b) used direct quotes? 3) What has Steve Smith done in his past to disrupt his team (<---- note, not plural) that in any way is comparable to what TO has done? 4) Do the Dallas trainers have the same objective evidence of injury that the Panthers' trainers have?

1) Umm I don't know. I told the trainer to get TO's ### back on the field? Or he might dance around it or refuse to answer the question. I don't think he would straight up call the writer a liar. I don't think he would do that.2) Given the media frenzy to get a story saying TO and Parcells are at each other's throats? Not much.3) Steve Smith cost his (my) fantasy team the Super Bowl last year by making contact with a ref so yes. lol Lost by 1 pt the bum!Actually Smith is known for being a hot head and I would not be shocked or even mildly surprised to see him raise a ruckus and shake the foundations if he felt he was under payed. 4) Have you ever had a hamstring injury? I have. Very painful and the worst part is you can forget about it for a time and have it flare up when you aggravate it. Pain comes out of no where. I can understand him, like steve smith, wanting to be sure it is healed before he practices. TO is known for working hard so I don't see him skipping camp. The only time he has done it is when he had a gripe with management over cash. And really? What was his only real option or way to protest? Skip camp and lose money out of his pocket? He doesn't have a problem here as much as alot of people wish he did.

This is getting more interesting by the day. Parcells is getting pissed and TO is being TO. and if this was the reg. season TO would be playing 100%. TO always has claims to have a hamstring injury and always is limited dogging it in practice but always plays in the game.
fixed
Since when does TO have the reputation of not practicing hard?? He is one of the hardest working players in the league. This criticism is bordering on ridiculous at this point. Yes, he hasnt practiced, but he will when the hammy is right. It's not like he is just sitting in the trainers' room taking a nap or is missing team and position meetings.
I agree. The only reason this is getting news is because it is TO. Steve Smith was out a very similar amount of time and it wasn't made into a big deal at all. Granted Smith didn't wear a bike jersey which I though was idiotic by TO. Hamstring injuries can take time to heal. Why is it ok for one star but not the next?

For the record, I do believe Steve Smith ended the career of one of his teammates when he punched him. Steve Smith is no Saint.
