Blackish on ABC (1 Viewer)

Is there a part 2 next week?

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here because I think they've set it up to say something important here.

The context of the show is that Dre is off base about lots of things regarding "blackness" in today's world.
Dre is conveying how he feels.  It's a history going back generations that has embedded this feeling.  When a grand jury fails to indict anybody in the Garner case, for example, it reinforces that feeling.

I don't have a problem with the show portraying the angle of "cops are unfair to blacks"...that's fine, but I have a problem with the show acting like they were portraying all angles fairly.

They showed a few differing opinions by the kids...and then proceeded to shut them down or prove them wrong.

Just own it...we're portraying the black experience of these events...period.

I wish they would have mentioned looting and violent protesters.
At the end the Dre's mother was sitting outside of the house (on a folding chair guarding the house) and she wrote on the garage "Black Owned", so they elluded to the looting.

They didn't want the kid to go by himself, so they were aware of the dangers...they don't have to beat you over the head with it....

Blackish has turned into one of my favorite shows, in large part because the kids characters are great.  It's been a really good season, too, but it's pretty clear that this last episode was not a good episode to judge the show.  Some will like, some will hate, but it's got little to do with the Blackish formula.

I found it a little uncomfortable to watch, but that's because it's a pretty uncomfortable topic.  I thought they handled it fine, but I can understand how others would view it differently.  But the show is going to look at things from the perspective of a black family, and the way it was produced reflected that.

We really like the show, but I'm not looking to get racially charged social science lessons from my comedies.

**** Gregory/Richard Pryor they ain't.

It's DVR'd. Not sure if we'll watch it or not. If it is as heavy handed and non-comedic as I get the feeling it is from this thread, we'll just delete it. Plenty of dramas and news on the TV. I don't watch comedies for that.

Growing up in Ohio suburbia in the 60s-70s with only a handful of black kids and almost no other ethnicities, comedy helped raise and appreciate the issue of race from a different perspective.

The Blackish episode felt very forced and clunky to me.  There were still a couple of laughs but the lecture-ry quality of it was completely off putting to me.

Yeah, I don't watch the show regularly but have seen a few episodes.  I watched this week's because of all the hype.  It wasn't good.

All in the Family might have been able to do a great episode about police brutality against black people, but I can't think of many other sitcoms that could pull it off.

Thought it was pretty funny until about the 22 minute mark. So it wasn't as bad as I was worried it would be. Made it through it.

This show is awesome. Just about every character is great.  Jack is probably my favorite, and everyone loves Charlie (Deon Cole), but Dre's boss is awesome, too.

Last night's show was very well done.  Had me lol-ing very frequently which is pretty rare anymore for a sitcom.

I don't catch every episode, but I like the ones I've seen.  Loved the neighborhood purge a month ago.

I don't watch much tv, and don't watch blackish often, but the work place bits I've seen are absolutely fantastic.

"I wish I could just leave my family like the white man."

"Dre, there's still time."
