Blacklist - new NBC show (2 Viewers)

Really surprised they let those two get wasted.
Yeah it suggests much closer ties between Red and the FBI after we get this all settled.
I don't follow. Why would the FBI care about Red's henchmen?
I don't think they will. But now Red is a little hobbled. He may need them more now than he did. I know he had other people on his list but it seemed like they were there to make them pick the two he wanted. Just spit balling

Ah, sorry. You meant on a going forward basis. Yeah, that makes sense. Though a little heavy handed, I like the quip about not judging a book by its cover, but judging it by its first few chapters, and its last chapter. Is this just a reference to redemption. Or could it be that Red left the FBI to become a criminal specifically so he could root out all of the world's worst bad guys?

He sure seems to enjoy the cover then. I really think this is all about regrets over the things he gave up. Trying to get back some piece of what he once had and the focus of that is our heroine. That's what I got from the "I want to sleep like I did when I was a boy, just once more". That suggests a desire to get to a point where he is, not innocent of course, but at least forgiven and perhaps understood.

There was a wistfulness to that soliloquy I can't see too many other TV actors carrying off as well as he did. Spader was the perfect choice for this.

I saw this scene right after again watching the rutger hauer speech at the end of Bladerunner. Both nicely done in the way they humanized characters that each in their own way were inhuman.

Yeah definitely in the same vein and equally well done.

I'm still in. Pretty solid episode right there. And the fact that people are actually being killed in this makes it better than most of the a-team fiasco shows where a .50 cal shreds a car and everyone jumps out runs away unscathed.

Really enjoying this still. Hopefully they have a plan on where to go with this.

Anyone else think that the head guy sounds just like Obama when he talks?

Sorry in advance for any morons who try to make this political.

Now that you mention it there is some similarity in cadence.

It actually drives me crazy because I enjoy the show and every scene he's in makes me think I'm watching Jay Pharoah doing Obama in an SNL skit.

I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it. IMO it isn't quite that close.

It probably isn't - I even asked my wife and she said the same as you but it's just one of those things - bugs the crap out of me.

Pretty sure though that he might have the inside track on the next project about Obama.

Keith Heading told me that joke!

Few thoughts about the half-season finale:

- I liked that they didn't drag out the whole Red in the box situation.

- Lizzy commandeering the car and having the civilian driving during the chase was ridiculous

- Alan Alda - guesses as to who he is? I'm guessing some super-secret government agency but just a wild guess

- He claims not to be her Father - I think he's lying. What other explanation is there for their relationship?

- I think they did a smart thing having the overarching storylines and not just the catch-a-bad-guy-a-week - that would have gotten old quickly I think.

My original theory is that he is the father but he doesn't even know it yet. Maybe he had a connection with the mother and this is his way of continuing that. Would think with his blood laying around she would do some analysis. But not a show-breaker.

I don't remember all the details of the show. So maybe I'm way off. Maybe he killed her father and feels responsible. I didn't think that earlier in the season so I'm probably forgetting something.

Or he's lying. Which is perfectly fine too.

In other words, we know nothing.

Just caught up. Fan-freaking-tastic two-parter with some really well-done military-style action. That was some first ten episodes! The only semi-clunker was "General Ludd," probably because the death of Liz's adoptive father was more important and reduced the blacklister of the week to about three-quarters of the normal screen time.

. . . aaand just renewed for a full 22-ep S2. Sweet. I think NBC struck gold with this one: bona fide, wildly popular TV star, unexpectedly great female lead, creative twists and nice writing balancing arcs and episodics. Superb supporting cast, too.

Floved Action Liz. Jane Alexander and Alda were great. My guess is that Alda is a senator or a rich businessman, or both. The dialogue between Red and "Fitch" was really fascinating.

I think Red was telling the truth at the end.

Having this back in January will be a nice post-holiday treat.

I can go with popular TV star, but I wouldn't go as far as to say wildly. To me, Spader is the show though. It's worth watching only for the way he chews up the scenery. I don't see it your way on the female lead, writing, supporting cast or anything else. Take away Spader and this show doesn't work. This isn't a great show. It's a fun show because it has flawed yet entertaining writing with a talented actor showing off. Best comparison is 24.

I think he means her biological father.

Well in that case he killed both her fathers, not really a good start to getting her to like him.

Going WAY out there.. but what if he is her brother.... Might explain the "Lizzy" nickname and he being the older brother wanting to protect her..

albeit a REAL Stretch.. Then again, it is T.V. and fiction so...... Maybe Alan Alda is the Father...

I am really intrigued by who her husband is. Red is concerned with him very much. Waiting for that plot line to come out more.

Whether or not Red lied, I at least give the show credit for having Lizzy ask the question, that most normal people would have asked in that situation. It seems most of these types of shoes ignore the obvious to continue whatever ruse they are selling.

:goodposting: No way is he "innocent"... the shot of him watching his wife drive away with "Mr. Kaplan" left the impression he was just waiting for them to leave and had been watching them.

This is exactly what I thought.
First reaction was oh another family reunion? But given that Red was a government agent before he turned bad 20 years ago, and Alda saying it's been 20 years since he seen Red, they probably worked together. I'm curious to know what it is that Red has, whether it's information or an item.

Found it odd that the apple eating spy drives a Volkswagen. Is there any significance to the apple that they always focus on? And maybe I missed it but Lizzy didn't tell the AD or anyone at the FBI that her house was under surveillance, correct?

Remember early on Lizzy(or someone)asked Red if they could trust him and he laughed and said no, I'm a criminal. He's lying about not being her father.

I'm looking forward to the day that the wannabe hipster teacher/terrorist gets his.

I think he's her dad. Episode one quote....

Elizabeth: I'm supposed to believe you.

Red: Of course not. I'm a criminal. Criminals are notorious liars. Everything about me is a lie. But, if anyone will give me a second chance it's you. The two of us have overcome so much.

To me that's lending more credence to him being her brother

Are we talking half brother that she never met? How would she not remember having an older brother around?

She's been having some amnesia type issues.

Is it any less plausible than her being unable to remember her real father?

me too. I think that will be the main story arch in January.
The way she glossed over finding that stuff in the floor was pretty weak. Perhaps she could get past it and buy his story but it was such an afterthought that it made it hard to believe. Plus someone just "planted" stuff in my kitchen floor maybe be aware of other intrusions like cameras.

:goodposting: Remember when she found that burned stuffed bear it brought back some memories of a fire. This last episode had her flashback yet again to a fire, but not a lot of details.

So the "we have overcome so much" easily could be a brother & sister overcoming a fire that destroyed the lives they once lived.

Did I miss something?

I thought Red admitted to being Elizabeth's father when he smothered her adopted father to death in his hospital bed a few episodes ago.

If not, then what were they talking about as the two of them were debating if Red should ever tell her the truth about her father?

Her father might be Alan Alda
