Blade Runner (1 Viewer)

I feel it's the best sci-fi movie ever made. The final cut is the best. At very least it is the most underrated and well written sci-fi of all time.

That's what I was told. Then I watched it. Thought it was pretty stupid and over the top.

Well I got the Director's cut. The way the Ridley intended it to be viewed. I'm hesitant to pop it in but I've been hearing a lot about it over at the nude sci-fi mostly women forum.

 for the most part.It is one of the all time greats and helped define many of our modern Sci-Fi genre films, books and overall thinking. It has it's slow moments and can be both a thoughtless fine piece of cinema while at the same time be very thought provoking. If you haven't seen it I feel you should.Schlzm

I will most likely watch it thenFinless

Otis appears to be on a down streak tonight, what with his "9" thread based on a single profile pic and now this.Schlzm
I'd like to bottle his wrongness and use it for good.
Be honest with yourself for a minute and just admit that you adore me.
That's why I said "down streak" and not something slanderous. I have found myself riveted and rofl'ing at many of your tales over the years, and though you may have been annoyed at me for my signing everything I type I still think you are a fine addition to FBG. Schlzm

All you do is talk about me. If you crushed me any more, I'd be flattened.

The funny part about that is I still don't even know who you are. Peyton Marino or one of his spinoffs?

Stop obsessing, Glenn.

Yes. Great movie and not just in the sci-fi genre. I would almost call it post-modern instead of sci-fi.

Blade Runner is one of those movies that everybody likes except for me. I've never been able to get into this one. I liked the book, but the movie just doesn't do it for me.

It is one of my very favorite films. There is no doubt that it is a seminal film for lots of filmmakers that followed. It's not a perfect film - I cringe anytime I hear Vangelis, for example - but there are so many wonderful moments in it.

It's must see. But it really isn't all that great.

It's great because of its set design. It is best viewed as futuristic film noir rather than as science fiction. It's more of a mood film than it is story driven as the story kind of drags and really isn't that impactful.

Rutger Hauer is awesome though.

I agree to an extent with Otis. Blade Runner is an interesting movie. It looks great. It attempts to explore interesting themes. And I don't think it really ultimately works. I think the dialogue is kind of slack and pretentious. I'm a guy who adores Kubrick, particularly 2001. It's tough for me to reconcile my love for that film with my coldness for Blade Runner, but there it is. I think it's that there's a pulpy aspect of Blade Runner that just seems to get squeezed out in the movie version. I feel that the film could be just as intelligent while still being more accessible.

Is it a must see? Probably, if only because interesting flawed films are important too.

The Deckard/Rachel relationship is awkward. I don't like how he forces himself on her. Not sure what they were going for there.

Deckard, like Rachel, doesn't know how to handle emotions. The reasons for that aren't explicit, but you're left wondering exactly how similar Deckard really is to Rachel. (IE - is he a replicant?)

I guess I can see that. :thumbup:Ridley Scott thinks Deckard is a replicant. Harrison Ford doesn't. But then Ford is a tool so...

I thought that bit of ambiguity was pretty cool.

Sean Young is a kind of a freak.
Tell me more  Love her
From IMDB:
Sean Young very much wanted the role of The Catwoman. During preproduction she arrived at the studio in a Catwoman costume to confront the makers of the movie. She used other people scouting the studio grounds, using walkie-talkies to communicate, to track down the producers. Tim Burton hid behind his desk so as to avoid seeing her.

I just read the book for the first time and I find the film vastly superior and more interesting than the novel.

Gonna have to check out the Final Cut this weekend.
It's not all that different from the previous cut. It's more of a cleanup than anything. Unless you're REALLY familiar with the movie, I doubt you'll notice too many changes. The only thing major that I remember (watched it a couple months ago) was that the line "I want more life, ####er" has definitely been changed to "I want more life, father."

i saw the final cut a few months back. you're right there is no real difference but i really appreciated seeing it on the big screen. totally worth it for that alone.

Didn't she stalk James Woods?
