After drafting Gabbert in several of my deep dynasty league with my first overall pick, you can understand my disappointment and second guessing whether I should keep him or not.
All throughout the season I've been listening to the awesome Audible podcast, and its the same thing every week since Gabbert took over as the starting QB: "He sees ghosts", "He is afraid of contact", "He rushes before he even settles", "He's afraid of throwing it deep".
All of these were sickeningly apparent during the MNF. Cfr: Spiking the ball when the pass rusher was no longer chasing him (good job by the LT). Gabbert is extremely afraid of contact.
Now with that said, it is also poor O-line that may be accounted for his quick check down plays. But that alone is not enough to exonerate his poor QBing.
I went back to check on some of Gabbert's pre-draft video, and see what the hype was. Gruden accurately pointed out that blaine is lazy coming off a snap from the center, and that his footwork needs a lot of improvement. Mike Mayock praised Gabbert for his "keeping his head down the field" ability, and using his eyes to manipulate coverage. However, all of these praise seems to be gone.
So my question is, is this the fault of Dirk Koetter, and that we can expect a better Gabbert in 2012 once Koetter is gone, or is this the Gabbert we will see for the rest of his short-lived career?
