Blizzard Warning in Los Angeles County (1 Viewer)

Do we have any El Nino/La Nina experts here?

After nearly 3 years of La Nina is the current weather pattern due to a shift to El Nino?

Here in the southwest/far southern Rockies we have had above average monsoons the past few summers, and drier than normal winters. This winter seems to have been way above average in precipitation and snowfall which is a welcome reprieve from the extended drought.
This winter once again proves the challenge of predicting the weather. All the talk I read last fall was how another strong La Niña (dry for us in SoCal) was going to happen and we needed to prepare for the drought worsening. I read recently someone said we had a rapid La Niña to El Niño shift But don’t know how official that is. Atmospheric rivers seems to be all they’ve been talking about.

I don't live out there and feel bad for those affected but is this good for the droughts?
It will help for sure, there’s no denying it, but not to the degree it should Considering the amount it’s rained. So much lost to run off.
like i said, i don't live out there, probably close to the farthest way in the US. wouldn't some infrastructure investment on rain retention help?

That and desalinization plants certainly would make sense, though I will stop there as I fear “political talk” ramifications.

That and lowering the Sierras for one of these so the water gets to the Colorado.

You're kidding, right?

Well I don't think we are in Blizzard Warning territory this go round, but I'm seeing yesterday being the wettest day in CA in the last 20 years.

Stay off those roads and away from those hills folks. Its a mess out here. Probably only going to get a little worse as the days go by.
