This winter once again proves the challenge of predicting the weather. All the talk I read last fall was how another strong La Niña (dry for us in SoCal) was going to happen and we needed to prepare for the drought worsening. I read recently someone said we had a rapid La Niña to El Niño shift But don’t know how official that is. Atmospheric rivers seems to be all they’ve been talking about.Do we have any El Nino/La Nina experts here?
After nearly 3 years of La Nina is the current weather pattern due to a shift to El Nino?
Here in the southwest/far southern Rockies we have had above average monsoons the past few summers, and drier than normal winters. This winter seems to have been way above average in precipitation and snowfall which is a welcome reprieve from the extended drought.
