I think this was done already but couldn't find it

Many years ago I used to run a lot of Super Bowl squares pools every year. They ranged from $5 to $20 with different payout models. I would get a lot of the same people year after year and some of them had specific squares they always wanted.

One year I asked a long time buddy if he wanted a square or two. He did so I asked if there was a particular square he wanted. His response back to me was "have you picked the numbers yet?" I said no, and he responded "then why the **** do I care where my square is?" I about lost it. ..hahahaha

Gambling in the purist sense. But if the person running it doesn't take a cut, it's better than most gambling in terms of ROI. 💯
I have been asked to get in these where the guy running it took a cut and always refused. I have gotten in some as a fundraiser for my son's baseball team where the team took a cut but that is a different thing altogether. It's actually quite an easy fundraiser for a sports team. There are always sports parents that are degenerate gamblers.

Yeah if it's a charity thing that's a different situation in that you are contributing to a good cause and also having fun. But I'm with you on the takeout bookies, I'd rather just tip a no cut guy for his trouble off my rare win.

I never took a cut. Before it was online and all paper, I would take one free block. But I made it known

Gonna start calling these Super Bowl Parallelograms and see if it catches on.
Rhombus would be even more fun to say, but whether the printout is symmetric in both X and Y is somewhat variable. Of course when it's not that would make "squares" technically wrong too.

Didn't know "block" was a weird niche thing. That's why I've always heard them called.
