Blocking moves during playoffs (1 Viewer)

Have one team pick up three 3 guys this week from the WW and is starting none of them.   One of the pick ups was a defense where he already had 3 defenses rostered so he was 4 on his team now.

I don't care, he certainly is within his rights, and the transactions cost him cash and add to the winnings in the jackpot so that is good, it is just something that I wouldn't do unless it made my team better.

Thoughts?

I'm not seeing an issue with it unless he was churning players (picking them up and dropping right away to put them back on waivers). If he added 3 players on waivers that says that other owners had a shot at them too - since it must have been over three rounds (or cost him FAAB money).

We don't do FAAB (long story) so it cost him real cash.  And so far he has not been churning, others had a chance at these players.  All above board and I don't have a problem with it but do find it interesting,  I guess I am too cheap to do it

I think it depends on the situation. If you are picking up your opponent's RB handcuff when you hear the starter may be injured, I think that's strategic. If you're just randomly picking players in some ham-fisted attempt to deny your opponent options, that's a bad look.

Most sites these days designate players as free agents as soon as they are dropped which has essentially “disabled” churning.

But, I have no issue with hoarding players on your roster. There’s obvious downside to keeping 4 defenses on your squad, but if the team feels like it’s a good defensive strategy (no pun intended) then all good.

No issue.

Done for real in the NFL.

Rule setting should take care of this. For example, max of 3 Ds on the roster only.

If I can't improve my team, I'm going to hurt my opponent's chances.

Art of war and what not.

As long as it fits the roster limits it is fine.

If you have a 14-15 player roster and the owner wants to carry 4 kickers or 4 defenses that is up to the owner,

My opponent this week had Thielen and Hopkins.  I picked up Osborn yesterday to block him from my opponent even though I will not start him.

On my FBGs waivers report it lists players I could think about picking up as a block to my opponent.

This is debatable?

Let me ask ya…

When you’re playing tic tac toe, do you only mark squares to win the row? Because it seems kind of dooshie if you mark a square just to block your opponent.

Thoughts?

Agree with the consensus. As long as he's not churning and there's no roster limitation rules of any kind....this is a legit strategy.

Assuming you have normal waiver rules (meaning he wasn't allowed multiple pickups before his opponent had a chance at a player)  his opponent had every opportunity to pick a defense (or any other position) off waivers if he needed one.

Now....lets say for arguments sake the opponent is starting Kirk Cousins at QB (playing Monday night). At 4 PM on Monday, it comes out that Cousins has COVID and can't play.  The guy then drops 2 of those defenses he didn't play (in my league, you can drop bench players to pick up a FA mid-weekend, even if those players' games have already kicked off...essentially blocking anyone from using them) and picks up Justin Fields and whoever Minn's backup is (essentially giving the opponent no options at QB)....I would consider that a total Richard move.

edit: FYI....If i had control of my league's rules, I would not allow the dropping of bench players after kickoff. But I believe that's the Yahoo default, so here we are. Still, I wouldn't use it in this manner. If I'm hoarding a position to block an opponent, I think those players should eat up a roster spot for the whole week.

I dont have an issue with it as long as its not done as player churning.  I DO have a problem if a player who is not in the playoffs does iit  just to try to affect who wins a championship that they are no longer able to win. For years our league allowed non playoff teams to use the WW....until 1 team decided to try to corner the market at a particular position (players they never once used) when the full well knew a really good playoff team was in serious danger of having no eligible player at that position.  While I couldnt prove there was collusion I strongly suspect there was and we changed the rule next year that allowed only playoff teams to use the ww (and everybody to use fcfs)
