Chiefs Sign OT C. Terry

KCChiefs.com - [Full Article]

According to Kansas City Chiefs HC Herman Edwards, the Chiefs have signed free agent OT Chris Terry. From Edwards's Wednesday press conference: Q: Have you decided what side you want to put OT John Welbourn on? EDWARDS: “Right now he’s playing left. We’ve all of a sudden acquired a lot of tackles. We’ve got Welbourn and Chris Terry who’s been with Carolina and Seattle. We’ve got 13 offensive linemen. I thought we were back in training camp we’ve got so many offensive linemen.”

A more official link is pending, as it just broke an hour ago here in KC.

EDIT: Just found thro his NFL.com profile that it is a 2-year deal.

Not to get off topic here, but the Chiefs O line looked great last week against one of the best front 7s in football. There was running room for LJ.

Fluke or have they made some real improvements?

Tell me more about Terry. I'm a Chiefs fan and don't know anything about him other than that he played in Carolina and Seattle.

Welbourn isn't even on the 53 man roster yet. He's an exemption (2 weeks to activate him), so he's the 54th man. He's currently practicing with the team.

Herm attributed KC's improved O-line play to the fact that they've been able to keep some continuity in the past few games. That's part of why Turley didn't start when he came back, and possibly why Welbourn may not either. They want to keep the same 5 guys playing together, as long as they're playing well.

Don't know too much about C.Terry. He's a former 2nd round pick of the Panthers (2.03) in '99.

When the Seattle Seahawks claimed Chris Terry off the waiver wire on November 19, 2002, it was hoped that the talented tackle would provide a solid answer as Walter Jones’ bookend on the offensive line. After two full seasons in Seahawk blue, the team has decided to end the commitment. As first reported by Seahawks.com, Terry was released on Friday.

Terry, who came to the Seahawks after being released by the Carolina Panthers in the wake of a misdemeanor charge of assaulting his wife and a subsequent missed court date, started 23 of the 25 games he played for Seattle. But he also served a four-game suspension in 2003 for violations of the NFL's substance abuse and personal conduct policies, and missed the last seven games of 2004 with a shoulder injury. When he was in the lineup in 2004, Terry struggled more than in the past and seemed to be a more frequent victim of false start penalties.

Signed by the Seahawks one day after the Panthers released him and re-signed to a 5-year, $19 million contract in January on 2003, Terry will count for $3 million against the salary cap this year. He will be off the books in 2006 and beyond.
