Green gone, who's to follow?

How about Mora, Crennel, Coughlin (gets a 1 week reprieve.) and if we expanded beyond coaches, how about everyone's favorite, Matt Millen?

Can't believe the Cards refuse to learn from previous mistakes, I would think that with 18 losing seasons the problem is bigger than just firing the HC every 3 years + they were actually starting to look, well at least promising.

The Cardinals were always who we thought they were. :D

Some teams might wait until tomorrow to fire their coaches. I am sure there will be some unexpected firings.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- Atlanta fired coach Jim Mora on Monday, just two years after he led the Falcons to the NFC championship game.

The decision to dump the fiery coach followed two straight disappointing seasons. The Falcons lost six of their final eight games in 2005 to miss the playoffs, and they finished 7-9 this season by losing seven of the last nine contests.

Owner Arthur Blank made the announcement at the team's suburban training complex.

I understand the Denny Green firing, but the Mora firing doesn't seem right to me.

He seems to be an up and coming coach who hit a couple of bumps with inconsistant QB play and underachieving WRs on offense and a rash of injuries on defense (at least last year).

I think another team that fires their coach this year will be happy to have him as coach.

This is just based on observations as I don't follow the Falcons so any inside info would help me understand this. Thanks.

He was on live radio a couple of weeks ago talking about dropping the Falcons in a heartbeat if the Washington job opened up.Whether he was joking or not, that is not something any head coach should be saying. The moment A Blank heard that, this day was inevitable.

WOW!Nevermind my comments, he's obviously not too bright if he said that. Wow!

There are rumblings of a shakeup in the Jaguars organization. OC Carl Smith? ST coach Pete Rodriguez?

--Im not sure how I'd feel about it but I will say there have been times where the playcalling has been mindboggling and not tailored to the strength of the team. He's had his moments but if Russ Grimm is on the market, its hard to pass. Special Teams have been the bane of this team as well, we rank in the bottom 5 in punt return yardage yielded, as well as have given up the most Touchdowns on PR's. Rodriguez was regarded as a guru in this field and it may look like he will get the boot here.

It probably didn't help Mora that the Falcons fell apart down the stretch both of the last two seasons, as opposed to coaching a team that started slow and then get hot during the second half of the season. They are like the opposite of the Dolphins the last two years.

Mora cut his own throat with those stupid comments regarding UW.

I guess the big win at Dallas saved Milen's job? Haven't they had a top 10 draft pick (mostly top 5) every year Millen has been there? How do you let him stay and expect your fans to come back in 2007? Disgusting ownership!

Maybe Ernie Sims doing well and Rogers not making it elsewhere helped his case?

Green fired

Pretty much a no brainer. Kinda surprised Mora hasn't been axed yet.
I agree with Leinart here:
But Leinart said the Cardinals have momentum going regardless of who is the coach.

"I think we proved enough this year what talent we have and the capabilities that team can do," the rookie said. "I feel like next year is going to be an even better year, no matter what."
In this era I guess Green took too long to turn it around but I do think it will happen for that franchise in the near future. Green did them some good, you won't be able to tell til next year or the year after but IMO he really did.

I am hoping for a Dungy firing once the Colts exit the playoffs.

Great man, average coach.

Bring on Jim Mora. Let him continue in his father's footsteps.

OT: You make think of a broader question the board can talk about this offseason, whether it is poorer reflection on a GM if the guy you selected high flops at your place and goes to success somewhere else or the guy is just a total bust either becaue of overrated talent or poor character.

I like to see results. Granted I grew up in NJ reading the NYC media but I expect it. IF Millen stays then how about some scout that raved about Rogers gets fired? Is he the one that wanted Aaron Gibson? I would imagine at this point, Detroit fans would want something similar. Not that they'd root for a guy to get fired but change is necessary so show them some.Mike Furrey was apparently someone Martz loved but I would imagine a scout or player personnel guy had to chime in. There's credit too, not just blame. We don't often read about scouts getting fired but if Millen stays it might be a necessary evil for Lions fans.

Interesting. As a Texans fan, I saw this bit last year with Casserly "resigning". The scouting staff was retained either in total or with one or two minor exceptions. Depending on if you believe the reports or not, many of the poor decisions by the texans organization was not a problem at the scouting level, but that Casserly gave into the coaching staff even when his scouting department had enough questions about the player being evaluated. To keep this somewhat on topic, so in Millen's case is he getting bad info from his scouts (okay to fire the scouts) or the scouts providing the correct info and is Millen making bad decisions with good info?

I don't know. That's often not discussed in the press. (Best scout articles involved the Bengals when Lewis got hired and had a contingency that they add a ton of scouts. Great read on how it all works if you feel like googling) It is though very cut and dry. Millen picks based on what he knows. He's informed by the scouts, player personnel people, and coaches but it's his burden. He must figure out what's wrong with the info he's getting and take care of it.The strongest Giants rumor is that Reese will be their GM. He's their player personnel guy and has been working with Accorsi(retiring) a bunch more hands on this regular season. Accorsi was an assistant to George Young before he took over. There's a continuity there. The ones evaluating players have to have a relationship with the guy picking. From what I can tell, Detroit is nothing like the Giants front office. That's Millen's job right there. Now Accorsi went against what he was told and drafted Kiwi. After everything he heard and saw himself, he believed Kiwi was special. There's a small article at Giants.com or DailyNews on this. I've posted it here a couple times. Anyhow, what's missed is the lack of press for a crazy or absurd or "off" pick when they already have two pro bowl DEs(at the time). They've got this trust and understanding between those guys and that works.Another example, the Pats drafting TEs every year gets laughed at not "beaten up" by the press.See but if Millen did this stuff he'd be chastised. IMO It's a result of someone in the organization second guessing to the press, then they run with it. He doesn't have that trust and understanding like those teams have. I imagine calls to the Giants about Kiwi were answerred with "eh Ernie really has a great feeling about him". That's it, discussion over.Millen's job is completely based on those relationships since those are the guys informing him. It's to his benefit or demise how he handles those relationships.

Joey, Rogers and Mike Williams - 3 top 7 picks that are complete and utter busts - if Millen was in New York he would be tarred and feathered on his way out. Keeping him on is inexcusable and a slap in the face of every Lion fan! PS - I'm not a Lion fan!

I see Mora going to UW...heheh

Hoak leaves Steelers....not really bloody, but it IS a vacancy.

I think the next coach to go would be Shell.

Believe it or not, I see Coughlins ugly face wearing a NYG hat next year too....they did make playoffs.

Same can be said for Dungy, colts, he aint leavin yet.

When you go on the road in your finale, and lose to the other team's JV unit, it pretty much says that your team has given up on the coach.

I read somewhere that the Lions have the smallest scouting department in the league.(or maybe it was the Vikings).I read a great book about the draft called "The Draft" which details the NFL draft from the perspective of an NFL as well as from the player/agents point of view. It is great offseason reading material.

The Bengals still have the smallest but thanks for the books recommendationhttp://community.foxsports.com/blogs/NFL_Czar/NCAA_FB/50201

Nick Saban decided to take another day to "think over" accepting the head coaching job at the University of Alabama. So tomorrow he'll either be Alabama's coach or he'll have leveraged it into a raise from the Dolphins.

Blood bath in JAX.

Offensive coordinator Carl Smith, special teams coordinator Pete Rodriguez, quarterbacks coach Ken Anderson, wide receivers coach Steve Walters and special teams assistant Mark Michaels were informed by head coach Jack Del Rio on Tuesday that they would not be retained in 2007.
