Doesn't anyone else think that Bob Costas' plug for tomorrow's morning show and McCartney's wedding was way inappropriate to conclude a pretty decent piece on Al Davis' life? I don't know if he was told he had to do it, or how it came about, but it was pretty classless for someone that I think is one of the best in the business.

Bob doesn't decide what to talk about or what in what order stuff goes.

Start that sentence over. Nice and slow.

I liked the piece. It was honest and genuine. McCartney is like Methuselah, so it was almost somewhat appropriate when talking about Al Davis. Al Davis literally died doing what he had done his entire life. Obviously so will McCartney.

And do you really think he chose to plug network shows? Something tells me that was handed down. Either that or professional #### kissing.

I thought the plug was tasteless, but I actually thought Costas was going to get in trouble with the network, because although he plugged the wedding, he then said sarcastically something like, "because apparently you need to know the details even if you're not there." I took that sarcasm to mean he thought it was a little ridiculous to be plugging the wedding and was trying to pan it...maybe I'm reading too much into it, but that's how it came off to me. I agree with the other comments that he likely has no control on what he has to plug at the end of his segment...

So Bob doesn't even have the clout to tell whatever hack producer, "No" I'm not going to plug your morning show, fire me if you don't want to aire my piece. I thought Bob was a little classier guy.

Thats how I took it as well. It seemed to me like he was forced to plug the wedding

I can't believe what I'm reading. There are people that don't know that plugging stuff on your network is part of the job description? Seriously? Wow. I thought it was hilarious.

I agree, it was very poorly structured.

And guess what, I'm willing to wager, the crossover audience of a halftime piece on an NFL owner and those that would watch the Today show is next to nil. Thats a promo aimed at 40 year old women and up. They aren't hanging on the Al Davis piece.

But then again, thats why they're a last place, irrelevant, network.

Lol, it has less to do with advertising and more to do with not catching lightning in a bottle with enough goofy shows like Dancing w/ Stars that do inexplicably well...Women aren't hanging on the Al Davis piece, but a lot of their husbands have the tv on that channel Sunday night.

Yeah, I'm sure you'd give your boss an ultimatum like that.

Just listened to JT The Brick give a fabulous tribute to Al Davis. Well done.
I heard that on the way in to work. Outstanding piece. Thank god that fatass moron maller wasn't on tonight.ETA: For those that missed it, I'm sure fox radio has all the shows available for podcast and it's right at the top of the show.

Like others said, I'm not sure why you think what he said was tasteless.... he was told to plug that. I did think it was a really good tribute to Davis too, one of the best and most honest ones I've seen.... that gave me a much more true sense of Davis' personality more then any other.

And yes, he did blatantly diss the wedding by saying "apparently we need to know details of a wedding we aren't even going to". I wonder if he'll get a talking to for that, but he did make it clear that it didn't seem appropriate he had to say that. We should be praising him for that comment rather then bashing him for a quick plug that the network made him do.

I have actually given a boss an ultimatum before and he caved in.
And now he doesn't make you serve fries that aren't yours?

I shall serve no fries before their time.

No big deal. This is Al Davis we're talking about not Mother Theresa. Al was all about plugging product and making money. He never cared if anyone's feelings were hurt in the process.
