Can Carpenter handle Sam or Will duties? Not being a wise-###; I have no clue. Do any of you guys know what he did in college? Can he put his hand down and rush from the nickel package?

He can probably handle both and I'd imagine he'll compete at SLB first. If he wins a job, he's probably going to be considered an every-down player. It would be surprising if he looks good enough to be considered a major upgrade over what they currently have, on the field or in IDP upside.

In college, he definitely rushed the passer quite a bit, with like 23 Sacks for his career, or something like that. He played Strong-side Linebacker for us. I just remember that he was a part of that ridiculous linebacking corp that we had that year, with AJ Hawk and Anthony Schlegel, both high draft-picks themselves.

The ironic thing with this deal - his last year, he broke his leg in the last regular season game against Michigan. His replacement for the remainder of the Michigan game and the Fiesta Bowl? His new teammate, James Laurinaitis.
