I think he got a raw deal in Dallas. When he began his career there, they had plenty of young decent-->good depth at LB. I thought he had a very good understanding of complex defense for a young kid and some solid measurables.
(Above he could be a real good player. Below he will never be)
The NFL game is about confidence moreso than many would like to admit. He can't have left with much of any so it's vital to notice if he has any at all in STL.
He did struggle to shed blockers but that wasn't really the prob with him. He was standing still and unsure of himself. Any NFL blocker should be able to neutralize a player standing still whether it's Lawrence Taylor or some scrub. His tackling was a very late reaction to a play and....a LB is downright useless if he can't react in an appropriate amount of time.
I think in preseason we'll be able to tell if Carpenter is done or not. His dad and his (long ago) draft stock are the only reasons he's in the league still. No DC wants a guy that stands still. It's just that simple.
At times he reportedly has an awesome attitude/work ethic like his Dad did. His dad was a bad RB that gave the Giants all he's got and somehow found a way to give more. He's have done anything for Parcells, literally anything. I can make this point easily. Coughlin mentioned his dad last year. Coughlin was a WR coach (IIRC) then and that was 25? years ago. His Dad's effort was so awesome it's memorable.
